The participation of São Paulo's psychologists in the recognition of the profession

The aim of this paper is to systematize the information obtained from documents and publications on the participation of São Paulo's psychologists in the process of the recognition of psychology as a profession in Brazil. During the analysis it was identified that Annita Cabral took great effort for the formation and the creation of a psychology undergraduation course at the University of São Paulo. The creation of the Sociedade de Psicologia de São Paulo and the creation of the Associação Brasileira de Psicólogos, which are fundamental for the organization and the institutional representation of São Paulo's psychologists in their requirements, are also Annita Cabral's initiatives. Bills concerning the recognition of the profession, sent by different groups and organizations, were analyzed. The study concludes that the participation of São Paulo's psychologists had a fundamental part in the formation and definition of the professional attributions as they are established in the current legislation.
