Volleyball athletes’ mood changes in different competition phases

Mood alterations in volleyball athletes with regard to the gender of participants and to different competition phases are provided. Thirteen female and eleven male athletes at a competition semifinals and finals accepted to fill the Present Mood States list. Results show that, regardless of the competition phase, a common outline for both groups is extant. Female athletes demonstrated a greater perception in evaluating mood states and used a higher number of phrases for self expression. Statements with significant differences in the game factor showed that the importance of the game and the uncertainty of results may change the athletes’ mood states.
