The aim of this paper is to analyze Portuguese publications regarding environmental management in Brazilian journals of production engineering. This report provides a survey of literature based on technological resources for indexing articles in a portfolio using the software Ucinet 6. With this systematic analysis, characteristics of interest related to environmental management were identified, including definitions and evolution of environmental management, methodological approaches reported in research articles with respect to the publication year, journal, number of authors, educational institution, state, citations map and keyword network. We observed a tendency for studies to measure the environmental performance of companies; however, the evaluation methodologies and the definitions and applications of indicators or indices require improvement. This article contributes to an overview of academic research in environmental management and study trends.
