Notes for a theory of social change in Herbert Marcuse

The analyses and reflections presented in this essay are based on questions and proposals presented by Marcuse in concerning the developed world and the education of the individual. It is possible to identify a research project that should form the base of theories for social change, combining philosophy, social theory and radical policy. In this essay I present reflections about a new foundation for Marxist theory, such as those presented in the text: "About the Concept of Denial of the Dialectic," written in 1966. Marcuse also reflects here on mature capitalism in its imperialistic phase. I also briefly present the author's idea about the importance of the aesthetic sphere for a theory of social change. Marcuse gives great weight to the aesthetic dimension, with education of the contemporary individual based on technique, aesthetics and politics which opens new possibilities for considering projects of social change.
