Social representations on history by youth and adults

This research aimed to analyze the social representations on History by students of the Education of Youth and Adults and understand how these students recognize themselves inserted in History. Sixty two students of the 3rd year of High School, in EJA modality of a public school of São Paulo State, had participated in the survey. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire elaborated by the researcher and the data analysis was done by the technique of content analysis. Survey results disclosed that the participants consider History a school subject constructed by heroes, ignoring their effective participation in it as historical citizens. The conception of these teenagers and adults is similar to the traditional perspective of History, that is, an essentially political history and facing the great events. Survey results also indicated that the social representations on History would be related to the low reflexive practices in the participants' school.
