Abstract
In analyzing the role exercised by military policemen in society, it is possible to see their strong relation to authority, strength and body integrity: aspects greatly distant of the image associated to people with disabilities. In spite of the apparent incompatibility between those roles, disabilities acquired at work are an actual possibility in their professional lives, due to physical jeopardy that policemen are submitted. Based on theoretical-methodological assumptions of Historical-Cultural Psychology, whereby work is known as a vital human activity, this study - realized with an exploratory and analytical approach - was done to identify the set of meanings related to disability and to Military Police in policemen with acquired disability, based on the participants' life history. Their findings reiterate the meanings of professional and personal devaluation given to people with disabilities, even in times in which inclusive actions have been propagated, in normative and social terms.
