Professionals of the health units and the teenage pregnancy

The present study aimed to analyze the content and the structure of the social representation of teenage pregnancy among health professionals; verify if the core's participants cognitions remains in thematizations from a second method of study of the representations; and identify the actions taken by professionals before pregnancy. The research was developed in the family health units. Sixty-one health professionals working at the Family Health Units participated in this study. We used the questionnaire of free association (analyzed with the software EVOC) and semi-structured interviews (thematic content analysis of Bardin). The representation of teenage pregnancy was associated with predominantly negative meanings. The action has an informative and prescriptive base, anchored on the biomedical model. The study points to the importance of formulating strategies in the implementation of public policies for the promotion and health education, in order to minimize the biopsychosocial impact of teenage pregnancy.
