What are we building: specialties or specialisms?

This work aims to present some reflections which are considered indispensable to comprehend how discussions about specialties are approached. This theme is widely related to both the practices in Psychology and the graduation of the professionals in this field. Nowadays, this issue has been prominent by the Psychology's Union in order to recognise the professional qualification of specialist. The study proposes the inquiring of this implications; it intends to relate some aspects that articulate themselves to the emergence of the specialties in the current context of the production in Psychology. For this, the study presents four reflective issues, such as specialties as a production which become epistemological feasible from the paradigm of modernity; alerts to the dangers that may occur by considering the knowledge in terms of specialties found in any cognitional field, but mainly in Psychology; the determination of some characteristics of contemporaneity, to understand in which ways these can support the proposal of specialties in this context; and, some inquiries which are understood to be relevant and related to the debate about specialties for the psychologist's qualification.
