Feminine and motherhood even more in prematurity

Abstract

Based on psychoanalytic listening offered to mothers of premature babies in the neonatology ward of a maternity hospital, this study articulates the relationships between the feminine and motherhood through a case analysis. To do so, it discusses issues related to the construction of motherhood as inherent to femininity, a perspective created by modernity that prevails today, followed by criticisms and updated views. It also considers the Freudian femininity as an Oedipean escape for women, which differs from social readings as it includes the desire. This notion was better developed by Lacan, whose writing helped us investigate motherhood and femininity according to desire and to phallic and not-all phallic jouissance, which are always singular experiences.
