Evaluation of cotton genotipes under salinity levels of the irrigation water

Abstract

This experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, with the objective of studying the effects of five levels of salinity of the irrigation water on the growth of five cotton genotypes. The genotypes were classified for the salinity tolerance on the basis of reduction in the vegetative development and yield variables. Results obtained in this research showed that the cotton is more sensitive to salinity in the growth and vegetative variables of development then in the yield variables. Among the genotypes, the cultivar Precoce CNPA 7H and CNPA Precoce 2, for growth and yield variables, respectively, had a tendency to be more sensitive to the saline stress, while the genotypes EMBRAPA 113-Algodão.7MH and CNPA Acala 93/15 were the most tolerant to salt contents of the irrigation water.
