Open-access Superconducting fault current limiters: main concepts and tests

Abstract

In this paper we present a study about fault current limiters based on superconducting materials for the protection of electrical networks considering the increase in the level of short circuit current. Commercial modules were submitted to short-circuit tests (currents in order of kA) with the aim of analyzing the effectiveness of these devices in current limitation. The test results can be considered satisfactory because the limiters modules were efficient in current limitation.
