Abstract:
The undergraduate course on Health Polices and the Gaspar Vianna Student Union at the Triângulo Mineiro School of Medicine established a partnership with a nongovernmental organization to involve student volunteers in health promotion work at the community level. Home visits, individual and group assistance, and educational activities were organized and implemented in the target area. Within this work routine it was possible to discuss and experience the difference between health care and paternalism and develop notions of solidarity, social commitment, and a systemic view of the family.
