Brevoxathres is included in a group of five similar genera of Neotropical Acanthocinini. A key to identificate these genera is given. Sciadosurus Gilmour, 1962 is considered a new synonym of Brevoxathres. Two new species are described from Brazil: Brevoxathres seabrai sp. nov., from Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro and B. irrorata sp. nov. from Santa Catarina. A new combination, Brevoxathres albobrunnea (Gilmour, 1962), comb. nov., is proposed. A key to species is added.
