Articles A rare new Darwin wasp Labena (Ichneumonidae: Labeninae) from Chile, with two new species-groups and an updated key to Chilean species Alvarado, Mabel Araujo, Rodrigo O. Pádua, Diego G. Abstract in English: ABSTRACT The genus Labena Cresson is composed of parasitoid wasps that attack wood-boring Coleoptera. In Chile, two species have been recorded, and neither fits into any known Neotropical species-group. We propose two new species-groups: the canelensis group, to include L. canelensis Porter, and the pucon group, to include L. pucon Porter and the newly described L. barrigai sp. nov. In addition, a taxonomic key for all Chilean species is provided. |

Abstract in English: Abstract A new sand fly species of the genus Trichophoromyia Barretto, 1962, from the state of Amapá, Brazil is described based on both male and female morphology. The new species belongs to the subgenus Trichophoromyia s. str. and the specimens were collected using CDC-type light traps. |

Articles A new species of Phanaeus MacLeay, 1819 of the Phanaeus splendidulus species group (Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Phanaeini) from the Northeastern Atlantic Forest of Brazil de-Moura, Hugo dos Santos Maldaner, Maria Eduarda Vaz-de-Mello, Fernando Zagury Abstract in English: ABSTRACT The Phanaeus splendidulus species group comprises five valid species, distributed from the eastern slopes of the Andes through the Brazilian Atlantic Forest to Northeastern Argentina. New distribution records of Phanaeus splendidulus (Fabricius, 1781) have been reported, interpreted by some authors as relictual populations of this species. In this study, we describe a new species of the Phanaeus splendidulus species group, collected in the Northeastern Atlantic Forest and in the Brejos de Altitude of Brazil. The description is based on external morphology of males and females, male genitalia and geographic distribution. We also provide photographic plates of Phanaeus nordestinus sp. nov., a distribution map of the species and a revised identification key for the Phanaeus splendidulus species group. |

Articles Redescription of the immature stages of Angelabella tecomae (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae) with notes on mandibular morphology and leaf damage on Tecoma fulva (Bignoniaceae) Cerdeña, José Farfán, Jackie Vargas, Héctor A. Lamas, Gerardo Abstract in English: ABSTRACT Angelabella tecomae Vargas & Parra, 2005, is a leaf-mining micromoth inhabiting xerophytic environments along the western slopes of the Andes in northern Chile and southern Peru, where it is associated with plants of the genus Tecoma Jussieu. Its hypermetamorphic development includes two larval forms: a sap-feeding form during the first four instars, and a spinning form in the final instar. Recent evidence suggests the existence of cryptic diversity within Angelabella Vargas & Parra, 2005 across its geographic range, indicating that the genus may comprise several candidate species that remain unrecognized under current taxonomy. To contribute to the accurate identification of A. tecomae, we provide a detailed redescription of its immature stages based on current standards of descriptive morphology. The sap-feeding and spinning larvae, as well as the pupa, are described in detail using scanning electron microscopy images and illustrated with detailed chaetotaxal maps. In addition, histological sections of leaflets of Tecoma fulva (Cavanilles) D. Don (Bignoniaceae), were examined to characterize the leaf damage produced by the sap-feeding instars and to assess their ontogenetic relationship with changes in mandibular morphology. |
