"Brazilian Workers!": the commemorations of 1 May during Vargas' Estado Novo

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the celebrations of 1 May during Vargas' Estado Novo. It is intended to identify changes and permanencies in these commemorative rituals, as well as the strategies of preparation, presentation and legitimation of these commemorations by the government.
