What Histories do We Want to Tell in the Future?: Experiments Between Historical Experience and EscrevivênciaI reflect on the social demand for a radical critique of universalism that has long characterized historiographical discourse. Calls for greater diversity in the writing of history are no longer limited to thematic considerations. New generations demand the pluralization of subjects and voices in the production of knowledge about the past. At the heart of this epistemological transformation lies the concept of historical experience, as it can also contribute to the construction of rebellious and disruptive histories of oppressive pasts. In dialogue with feminist epistemologies, I revisit Joan Scott’s analysis of the importance of “studies of difference”, not essentializing historical experience in their approaches. Furthermore, I explore the concept of “escrevivência,” developed by Conceição Evaristo, as a theoretical and methodological opening for constructing histories committed to confronting the social issues that still perpetuate inequality in Brazilian society.
