Representations and Disputes over the History of the Brazilian Labour Law

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to reflect on the controversial relations between the history of Brazilian labor law and the uses of the past. In this discussion, influenced by the context of proliferation of hate speeches, denialism and revisionism, the disputes about the past deserve to be highlighted, in a framework of growing public - and political - interest around the history of labor law. At stake are symbolic artifacts inherent to the representational process about the past, capable of impacting the definition of the contours of normative agendas in progress for the Brazilian working class.
