I Am Not a Trickster: OER Production for Critical Literacy and Symbolic Competence

ABSTRACT

This paper reports on research on the development of Open Educational Resources (OER) in the perspective of Critical Literacy (CL) and Symbolic Competence (SC). First, we discuss the relevance of Critical Literacy and Symbolic Competence to the context of language education, specifically with regard to OER production; afterwards, we approach theoretical-methodological principles of CL and SC that may be used as parameters for OER production; finally, we demonstrate how such principles can support the production of such materials. The paper demonstrates how theoretical-methodological principles of CL and SC may be applied to OER production by offering subsidies so that educators may not only produce teaching materials in the perspective in question, but also do so from their respective educational realities.
