This paper has two objectives. Firstly, we will present an overview of Spanish dictionaries through the elaboration of a taxonomy. Secondly, taking into account the specific language needs of Brazilian learners of Spanish, we will evaluate how helpful the Spanish dictionaries are for the students, paying special attention to bilingual dictionaries, learner's dictionaries and general monolingual dictionaries.
