The use of Dictionary by Students of Spanish as a Foreign Language Majoring in Tourism

Abstract

Pedagogical Lexicography in the field of Lexical Sciences, as it is known in Brazil, aims to study the implications of the dictionary in the learning of a certain group of consultants. For this qualitative study, we used several investigations that support our discussion, among which include Rodríguez Barcia (2016), Maldonado (2012)MALDONADO, C. Los diccionarios en el mundo ELE: ayer, hoy y mañana: una reflexión desde la propia experiencia. Revista Internacional de Lenguas Extranjeras (RILE), Tarragona, n. 1, p. 151-179, 2012. and Porto Dapena, (2002)PORTO DAPENA, J. A. Manual de técnica lexicográfica. Madrid: Arco-Libros , 2002.. In much the same manner, we used a survey of 20 questions with 49 students from two institutions in the federal sphere. The data indicated that university students consider the dictionary an excellent tool that enhances their learning, but even though, they do not know all potential of this lexicographic work, or do not usually use dictionaries in their courses and, when they use them, they do not do it properly.
