CLEFT LIP AND PALATE AND BREAST FEEOING

The baby borned with cleft lip, cleft palate or both immediately presents upon birth an inherent suction difficulty due to these kind of deformity.

An extensive Jiterature review was condúcted aiming the better understanding of interfering factors in breast feeding process. lnterviews based research was done with 36 mothers of children borned with these deformities in Joinville/SC. Some methods for breast feeding were discussed in this study when the sucking natural ability was found impossible. The data obtained lead to conclude that a cleft lip, cleft palate or both interfere in the feeding process in accordance with the severity of the individual condition. ·
