This study is indended to estabilish the nursing roles in Mental Retardation assitance in health prevention levels: health promotion and protection especific, early detection of mental retardation individuals, genetic counseling, specific education and treatment, rehabilitation and vocational training. Moreover, were related some activities which should be developed by the nursing professional in assisting the mental retarded individuals, in order to estimulate and encourage his participation in this area
