The nasogastric intubation - that seems to be a simple procedure - requires the close and effective nurse's participation in it. The patient may have some discomfort or even serious complications, if some important considerations are omitted. The authors made a survey among nurses from several hospitals, in a city of the state of São Paulo, to know which member of the health team has been doing such technique, and to investigate the way they have been performing its insertion, tests, attachment and removal.
