In this work, a group experience with patients of cardiac surgery is reported. The activity is accomplished at "Instituto de Cardiologia do Rio Grande do Sul", and it aims to offer the patients the opportunity to verbalize their anxieties and talk about their experiences related to the surgery and anesthesia. The groups meet twice a week and they are formed by adult patients in pre - or pos - conditions of immediate surgery. The medical staff is made up of nurses, psycologists, anesthetists, cardiologists and plysiotherapists and they act in a sense of helping in the understanding of the procedures to which the patients will be submitted, undoing fantasies distorted from reality
