Psychology: Female Profession? The vision of Psychology's Students

Abstract:

This article presents results of research that problematized the notion of profession ‘feminine’, present in psychology, based in the quantitative majority of women in professional practice. We seek to understand the meanings associated with the professional of psychology and the ‘feminine’, from the social representations theory, aiming to understand the preconceptions related to gender in the profession. One of the methodological procedures adopted was the conversation circle and the participants were students of the penultimate year of psychology, of a public university of Pernambuco. Through the enunciation analysis, we interpret that the profession was associated in care, typical role assigned to women, however, this association was also questioned. The participants already show critical reflection about the theme expressing tensions and prospects for change involved in the initial formation of new generations of psychologists.
