Contributions of Latin American Thought to the Decolonization of Knowledge

Abstract

In this article we address the case of some theoretical proposals that have contributed to the decolonization of knowledge in the fields of Philosophy and Social Sciences. Through the analysis of some issues raised by the Philosophy of Liberation, counter-hegemonic Feminisms, Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy and the work of José Carlos Mariátegui, we show a line of continuity/discontinuity with what today has been called the decolonial turn. From an interdisciplinary perspective, combining Intellectual History, Political Philosophy and Social Philosophy, we recognize the geopolitical antecedents of the decolonial turn in Latin American critical thought. Our objective is to ponder the relevance of these intellectual currents in the history of critical thought.
