Published in 1925, Juliano Moreira’s text, which we present here, discusses the immigration problem and its relation to the mental constitution of the Brazilians. Our article analyses the context in which the text has been written to show the relationship between the consolidation process of the Brazilian psychiatry and the collection of ideas and practices relating to the country’s destiny.
