There has been a significant change in the way social bonds are established. The undermining of symbolic authority is considered one of the most important causes of this change. The present article discusses the question of social bonds from the psychoanalytical point of view on the origins of society, as treated in “Totem and taboo”, and suggests taking Freud’s “Moses and monotheism” as an approach toward the reasons for this symbolical failure of authority in the contemporary world.
