Study of the kinetics of the dissolution of the wastes residual of the borateras industries with solutions of glycerin

ABSTRACT

In this paper the dissolution kinetics of industrial boron wastes residual with glycerin solutions (C3H8O3), effluent from the biodiesel industry, with the aim of enhancing the utilization both wastes, were investigated. It is based on the complexation of boron with the polyol.

The dissolution is carried out in a batch reactor at atmospheric pressure. The effect of the following parameters is investigated: reaction temperature, concentration of glycerin, and solid/liquid ratio on the dissolution rate of the industrial wastes.

It is shown that the dissolution rate of industrial boron wastes in glycerin solutions increases with increasing the concentration of glycerin and the reaction temperature and decreases with increasing the solid/ liquid relation.

The best working conditions are as follows: temperature 80 °C, glycerin concentration 0,4 M and solid/liquid ratio of 0,1 g / ml. Under these conditions the transformation of industrial boron waste is higher to 17%.

The apparent activation energy was determined, 7,72 kJ / mol, consequently the dissolution of the wastes is controlled by diffusive mechanisms.
