This is the last issue of the Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia. Or rather, it would be, if Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology was not a mature, strong and, mostly, united class.

The Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia will have new direction. The Academia Brasileira de Audiologia assumed the continuity of this journal.

Whoever believes that ABA has nothing to do with this journal is mistaken, since the ABA is a scientific association which has as one of its main purposes the development of our profession.

Furthermore, the ABA has as objectives established in its bylaws, among others, the contribution to professional development and working conditions improvement of audiology professionals in the country, particularly at postgraduate level, as well as to carry out activities suitable to the fulfillment of its scientific and technological aims, and also of social representation of a professional category.

Our profession is one, and it is the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

Thus, the ABA took this challenge because understands the difficulty of the SBFa to give continuity to two important journals simultaneously, the Jornal da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia and the Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia. With the support of SBFa, the ABA decided to not allow a journal so highly-ranked to get out of circulation. For a journal indexed to Scientific Electronic Library Online - SciELO, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde - LILACS, and Sociedad Iberoamericana de Información Cientifica (SIIC Data Bases) could not be discontinued.

Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology can't survive with so few periodicals, since it is a science in full development. Fortunately, this field is growing a lot with new masters and doctors, and this can be seen by the substantial increase in the number of post-graduate programs in the country. Add to that the fact that Professors and under graduate and graduate students also has been producing rich clinical and research material, which must continue to be published.

So, in order to not lose all this important gear, the journals are indispensable vehicles to the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology scientific dissemination.

We believe this transition will be as smooth as possible for the professional; however, we apologize in advance for setbacks that may occur with this change.

The new journal will have another name due to the fact that the new management will be assumed by another scientific organization, not allowing the journal called Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia, which is a "brand" itself, to keep this title. However, the new periodical will continue to publish articles related to Speech, Language and Hearing science as a field of knowledge and not only related to Audiology, but also covering topics related to Language, Speech and Voice, among others. It is our commitment to make this a clear and transparent process.

This is a new challenge for the field and we need support and involvement of all, for a consolidated Brazilian Speech, Language and Hearing science of quality and international projection.
