Hearing health: study of satisfaction degree of hearing aid wearers

PURPOSE: To characterize the degree of satisfaction of adult and elderly users of hearing aids attended in public hearing healthcare services, and its relationship with variables such as gender, age, degree of hearing loss, hearing aid type and hearing aid electroacoustic profile, comparing the results with normative data reported by the questionnaire's authors. METHODS: Thirty nine individuals (21 male and 18 female) with ages ranging from 19 to 90 years were evaluated. It was used the Satisfaction with Amplification in Daily Life - SADL questionnaire, presented orally by the researcher during individual interviews. RESULTS: In general, all subjects presented some degree of satisfaction with their hearing aids, showing higher global and subscale scores in the SADL than those described by the questionnaire's authors. A statistically significant association was observed regarding the relationship between satisfaction and hearing aid type, where intra-aural hearing aid users were more satisfied than other users. CONCLUSION: There was no relationship between the degree of satisfaction presented by the hearing aid users and the variables: gender, age, hearing loss degree and electroacoustic profile.
