Strategic analysis of tuberculosis Epidemiological Surveillance: a local experience

ABSTRACT

This strategic analysis aimed at assessing the adequacy of Tuberculosis Epidemiological Surveillance actions in a priority municipality in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The case study employed mixed methods involving literature review, document analysis, direct observation and semi-structured interview with health professionals and health managers. Evidences indicate that, in spite of the actions have been carried out following national recommendations, they are not sufficient for the local control of the disease. This may be due to both the adoption of a limited perspective of Epidemiological Surveillance activities and the difficulty of health professionals to incorporate such actions.
