Determinant factors for tuberculosis treatment dropout: representations of patients at a public hospital

The aim was to identify and analyze the determinant factors that led Tuberculosis patients to treatment dropout. An exploratory, descriptive and qualitative research was conducted with 15 patients admitted to a hospital in João Pessoa (PB), Brazil, using a semi structured interview and content analysis based on Bardin. The reasons listed were alcoholism, drug use, adverse reactions, socioeconomic issues, religious reasons, difficulties in access to treatment, relationship with health professionals and the sensation of healing before the end of the treatment. Tuberculosis still needs administrators' attention and treatment dropout interferes with the healing process.
