Persistent racial inequalities and black resistance in contemporary Brazil

Abstract:

This article discusses how racism is structured in Brazilian sociability and its effects revealed in the indices of social and racial inequalities. To make the relations of social classes intelligible at their intersection with the racial question, we present subsidies to rethink the edification of this nation based on an abstract concept of racial democracy. From this understanding, we highlight the different forms of resistance that have been constituted by the black population.
