Open-access "An attack on freedom of thought": censorship and theater in the second phase of the Brazilian Drama Conservatory (1871-1897

This article intends to offer a contribution to the history of the second phase of the Brazilian Dramatic Conservatory (Rio de Janeiro), whose official documentation is unknown. Looking fill this gap, it used sources such as newspapers, laws and ministerial reports. From this movement was possible to draw a picture that, although fragmented and discontinuous, gives a rough overview of the functioning of between 1871 and 1897 and the tensions and conflicts in which it is involved.
