In this article, we analyse the texts of the dedications, censorships, approvals and prologues published in surgery and medicine treaties, written or edited in Spain during the first half of the eighteenth century, that had confirmed circulation, becoming works of reference to Jesuits who acted as apothecaries and medics in America. Other than the identification of the writing strategies evidenced in these texts, which precede the content itself of these printed treaties, we evaluate how, through these texts, their authors and editors sought to point out appropriate ways of reading and, this way, to disseminate certain scientific pieces of knowledge in Spain and in the areas of its vast colonial Empire in the eighteenth century.
