Evaluation process

The purpose of the evaluation is to help authors improving the quality of their work, providing constructive evaluations made by academic experts within a reasonable period of time. BBR – Brazilian Business Review considers the process of evaluation a fundamental stage for the improvement of articles. Therefore, the reviewers of BBR – Brazilian Business Review are encouraged to present, besides their opinion on the article, suggestions on the contents and text.

Articles submitted to BBR – Brazilian Business Review must be original and not have been previously published or about to be published in any journal, in Brazil or abroad. Works presented at seminars, congresses, symposia, etc., are considered unpublished. Therefore, BBR – Brazilian Business Review encourages authors from any affiliation to format their texts in article format and submit them for evaluation. Articles can be submitted in English or Portuguese.

The evaluation process of articles submitted to BBR – Brazilian Business Review consists of two stages.  The first one is an Editor and Associate Editor’s preliminary evaluation that verifies the suitability of the work in relation to the periodical’s editorial line and they make the Desk Review evaluation. The second one, which is the actual evaluation, in the double blind review system, is typically held by two ad hoc consultants.

The evaluation considers, primarily, the scientific quality of the text, focusing on the following aspects:

  • The theme should have contemporary relevance
  • Originality of the work
  • Theoretical relevance and consistency of the text for development of the area of knowledge
  • Quality of the theoretical reference used
  • Quality of the writing and text organization
  • Contribution to managerial knowledge or for managerial action of corporations
  • Methodology used: suitability, quality, and level of sophistication
  • Quality of the analysis and data discussion (if any)
  • Conclusions: attainment, fundamentals and coherence.

The result will be informed to the leading author of the paper by e-mail.

The consultant’s opinion will be given approximately 90 days after acceptance by the Desk Review process.

Once approved, the article goes through spelling and grammars check. All articles are published both in English and Portuguese. For articles submitted from 2017 on, the authors will be responsible for providing the version in the other language within 2 months after the approval of the article. If the authors fail in providing the translated version within the alloted time the approval will be retracted. Approved articles in English, submitted from Apr/2018 on by non-Portuguese-speaking authors, will have the translation to Portuguese provided by BBR free of charge.

BBR – Brazilian Business Review does not charge authors for submission. We also declare that BBR – Brazilian Business Review is an Open Access Journal with all of its content immediately made available for reading without cost upon publication.

The body of the article should follow from the second page onwards.

To ensure anonymity of the evaluation process, the author(s) should not identify himself/herself/themselves anywhere in the body of the article. ScholarOne allows authors to indicate suitable reviewers for the paper. However, there is no guarantee that the indicated reviewers will be assigned to examine the paper.

The articles must contain, if possible: a. objectives; b. literature review c. methodology; d. results and discussion e. conclusions, limitations, recommendations of academic and practical nature; f. references, and g. appendices and attachments. If applicable, ethical procedures adopted in the research should be described in the final paragraph of the Methodology section making mention to the number of approval protocol by Research Ethics Committee.

Abstract

An abstract often appears separated from the article, so it should be self-contained. As a minimum, the abstract must clearly and briefly state the purpose of the research, the main results, and major contributions. References should be avoided, but if needed, you may cite authors and years. Non-standard of uncommon abbreviations should also be avoided, but if essential they must be defined in the abstract itself.

Introduction

The introduction must emphasize the incremental contribution of your research. Keep citations to a minimum, using only the strictly necessary to properly motivate the research, and highlight and clarify the results and contributions. The introduction must not contain a "roadmap" or "contents" paragraph stating the paper's sections. A good introduction should must and clearly state the research's goal, motivation, methods, results, and contributions, so that it answers three fundamental questions (Grant & Pollock, 2011):

  1. Who cares? What is your research about? How is it useful, why does it matter?
  2. What do we know, what do not we know, and so what? What has been uncovered so far, what has not? How does your research fits into the context?
  3. What do we learn? What does your research bring? How does it advance our knowledge?

Methodology

The methodology section must be clear enough to allow replication of the research. Your research design has to be described in detail, explaining the methodological choices you adopted and why. If your research contains statistical analyses, please observe the next item.

Statistical analysis (if applicable)

All statistical methods must be described with enough detail to allow a properly trained reader with access to your data to cross-check your results.
Any processing of the data, such as transformations, re-coding, re-scaling, normalization, truncation, winsorization, removal or modification of values must be fully disclosed and justified. Units must be supplied for all measurements.

Authors must provide a complete and transparent view of the results, so that the conclusions are supported by appropriate statistical analyses and limitations of the study are clearly discussed.

Additional info

After the references, a sentence should be included, where the author(s) states whether there are conflicts of interests, in addition to indicating each author''s contribution in the research.

Manuscript submissions

The articles will be submitted by electronic form available on the periodic website (http://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/bbr-scielo).
