Movimento is a journal published by the Escola de Educação Física, Fisioterapia e Dança (ESEFID) of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Since its first issue in September 1994, the journal has aimed to serve as a platform for the sharing of scientific and cultural production in Physical Education and Sport, both nationally and internationally.

Initially launched as a multidisciplinary journal, Movimento shifted its focus in 2003 (vol. 9, no. 1) to become a publication dedicated to manuscripts on Physical Education that intersect with the Human and Social Sciences, particularly in sociocultural and pedagogical areas. The journal's evolving history influenced this realignment, as did the need to comply with technical standards for indexing in national and international databases and the aim to foster richer academic debate. Consequently, it became the only Brazilian journal at the time to focus exclusively on this perspective in Physical Education.

In 2006, the journal's editorial activities were moved to the facilities of the Edgar Sperb Branch Library at the then School of Physical Education (ESEF, now ESEFID). In 2007, the journal permanently adopted the Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER), customized by the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) and made available through the UFRGS Scientific Journals Portal. This transition enabled complete online management of the editorial workflow. From then on, the entire journal collection was made available through open access thanks to a collaborative effort by the Editorial Board, the ESEFID administration, and the Branch Library. In 2011, the journal published its final print issue and became an exclusively electronic publication.

In 2009, Movimento was indexed in Scopus and began to be evaluated using the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR). By 2010, it was assessed annually through the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) of Web of Science (WoS). It became the only Brazilian journal in Physical Education and Sport included in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). In 2020, it was added to SciELO, making it the sole Physical Education journal represented in both the Human Sciences and the Health Sciences. In addition to these databases, the journal is also indexed in other important scientific networks and systems, as listed in the Indexing Sources section.

Throughout the 2010s, the journal consistently published scholarly research and provided free, immediate access to all content. This highlighted the importance of open sharing in promoting the global democratization of scientific knowledge. Its editorial activities received funding from several organizations, including Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), the Ministry of Sports (ME), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), and the UFRGS Journal Publishing Support Program (PAEP/UFRGS).

Starting in 2018, the journal introduced article processing charges (APCs) during specific periods to maintain its editorial sustainability amid disruptions in public funding. This approach was mainly applied when public funding was lacking. When government agency funding was obtained, the charges were lifted, or APC waivers were offered to authors from Latin American countries.

Since 2019, the journal has adopted a Continuous Article Publishing (CAP) model for its Original Articles and Essays sections. In some volumes, it may also publish contributions in the Reports, In Focus, and Controversial Issues sections. All publications are open access and available in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French to promote the dissemination of national and international research on Physical Education and Sport. The process of internationalization has grown stronger in recent years, with about 40% of articles since 2020 authored by or co-authored with researchers from foreign institutions. This reflects the journal's strengthened international presence and increased focus on bilingual publication.

In 2024, Movimento marked its 30th anniversary by launching an international edition of the “Controversial Issues” section. Additionally, the Editorial Committee revised the journal’s scope to emphasize the publication of qualitative research in the Human and Social Sciences. This change has strengthened the journal’s standing in the global academic community by encouraging epistemological diversity and challenging longstanding biases against qualitative methods. Movimento continues to prioritize publishing studies that critically examine bodily practices related to Leisure, Education, and Health, especially those grounded in critical and reflexive perspectives, both theoretically and empirically.

Movimento publishes its articles under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), adopting an Open Access approach that provides unrestricted online access, free of financial barriers, to all of the journal's scientific publications.

Open access means that the copyright holder of a scholarly work allows third parties to use it freely under an open license. This provides instant, free access, enabling users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search for, link to, index, and use full articles for any lawful purpose.

This journal operates under the Gold Open Access model. In line with best Open Science practices, Movimento welcomes submissions of manuscripts that have been deposited on and published via preprint servers. The journal encourages authors to share the data generated, collected, and organized during their research, to publish peer-reviewed articles, and to foster engagement between authors and reviewers. At submission, authors are required to declare and supply details about how their manuscript adheres to Open Science principles.

Each published manuscript includes an “Editorial Notes” section that provides, as relevant, details such as the license type, conflict of interest declarations, individual author contributions, funding information or its absence, approval or ethical compliance for research involving human subjects, data availability, previous versions on preprint servers, use of AI tools, whether the peer review was open, and the editors responsible during the review process.

Movimento adheres to the principles of research integrity established by the ethics code of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the SciELO Guide to Best Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication, Resolutions No. 466/2012 and No. 510/2016 of the Brazilian National Health Council, and the Policy on Integrity in Scientific Activity of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). The Brazilian documents listed above are only available in Portuguese.

Movimento is an international open-access journal dedicated to disseminating scholarly production in the field of Physical Education and Sport. The journal focuses particularly on publishing studies that critically examine bodily practices at the interface with Leisure, Education, and Health. It prioritizes theoretical and empirical studies grounded in the Human and Social Sciences that value critical and reflexive approaches and employ qualitative methodological designs.

This journal complies with the standards established by the SciELO Digital Preservation Program. Through the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, the journal is also a full partner of the Cariniana Network of Digital Services of the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology. Information about the Cariniana network is only available in Portuguese.

Aligned with best Open Science practices, Movimento welcomes manuscript submissions that have been posted as preprints on platforms like SciELO Preprints and Research Square.

Authors who have shared a preliminary version of their manuscript as a preprint must disclose it at the time of submission, including the relevant DOI and/or URL. Authors are responsible for maintaining the link between the preprint and the submitted or published article. After the article is published in the journal, authors must update the preprint to include the full reference and DOI of the published version, preventing confusion about duplicate content and ensuring all versions are linked via hyperlinks.

Manuscripts submitted to Movimento first go through an initial eligibility check by the Editorial Team. This includes verifying if the manuscript fits the journal's scope, complies with submission restrictions, submits files as per guidelines, completes all required authorship and metadata information on the platform, and checks for similarities with other published works.

If any issues are identified with these items, the authors will be notified that the evaluation cannot continue. The Executive Editorial Team will then request the required corrections or additions and set a deadline for submitting the updated version to Movimento.

Manuscripts that meet the eligibility criteria will undergo a double-anonymous peer review. First, a Section Editor will be assigned to oversee the process. The editor will appoint at least two reviewers to evaluate the manuscript and submit their review reports within a maximum of three weeks.

For manuscripts already uploaded to preprint repositories, the review will be conducted using a single-anonymous peer-review format. This means reviewers know the authors' identities, while the authors remain unaware of the reviewers'.

The reviewers assigned should evaluate based on these guiding criteria:

• Originality, novelty, and relevance: assessment of the relevance of the topic and objectives aligning with the field, identifying knowledge gaps, contributing to the field, and potentially inspiring new insights or debates.

• Coherence: logical consistency of the argumentation in relation to the adopted theoretical and methodological framework; clarity in formulating the objectives. and alignment among the objectives, analytical development, and conclusions.

• Theoretical and analytical consistency: solid grounding of arguments; capacity to support the presented propositions despite opposing views; and alignment with the current state of scientific research on the topic.

• Objectivity and argumentative strength: ability to apprehend the constitutive elements of the phenomenon under investigation; robustness of the analyses; and plausibility and support for the results presented.

• Linguistic adequacy and compliance with technical standards: mastery of the standard written language and adherence to the journal's editorial guidelines and adopted technical standards.

• Research and publication ethics: adherence to the ethical standards relevant to research in the Human and Social Sciences, along with compliance with scientific integrity guidelines and best publication practices.

Considering the review reports, and in cases of disagreement, imprecision, or incompleteness, Section Editors may appoint additional reviewers to gather further information about the manuscript according to the adopted guiding criteria. These additional reviewers will also have three weeks to submit their review reports. Based on the recommendations and review reports from all reviewers involved, the responsible Section Editor submits a proposed decision to the Editorial Board, which then deliberates on the manuscript's editorial status. The possible outcomes are:

• Accept the manuscript for publication.

• Request corrections, revisions, or additional information from the authors.

• Reject the manuscript for publication.

If the decision is to request corrections, revisions, or additional information, this does not mean the manuscript is accepted; rather, it indicates there may be further rounds of review. The authors will be notified of the decision and have 15 days to respond and submit a revised version. They may also, if appropriate, include the relevant justifications for the issues raised.

After resubmission, the manuscript will undergo a new review cycle with the same reviewers, ideally those who identified the original issues. They will have three weeks to assess whether the concerns have been properly addressed. If needed, the Section Editor can appoint a different reviewer, who will then have three weeks to provide a comprehensive review report.

After completing all review rounds, the Section Editor makes a final decision based on the reviewers' recommendations and reports. Even if the Editor recommends acceptance, the Editorial Board can still reject manuscripts that violate any part of the journal's editorial policy.

The final published version of an accepted manuscript will include an “Editorial Notes” section that lists who was responsible for the editorial process.

Movimento encourages authors to share data and information generated, gathered, and organized during their research, such as interviews, databases, and documents, while respecting ethical considerations and agreements that influenced the study. The goal is to enable readers and other researchers to evaluate the research independently and, if accepted for publication, to facilitate additional investigations and analyses.

In line with transparency and scientific integrity guidelines, as well as Open Science policies, authors must specify at least one of the following: research data are available in a repository; research data are available upon request only; research data are available (in whole or in part) within the manuscript; research data are not available; or no research data were used.

Movimento waives publication fees for Latin American authors when research funding is available, covering the journal's editorial costs. This waiver may continue if funding is renewed or new sources are secured. If funding ceases, publication fees might be introduced for these authors to ensure financial stability. Any fee changes will be announced in advance on the journal's website.

For manuscripts submitted by authors from countries outside Latin America, a publication fee of US$150.00 will apply. After acceptance, the Editorial Team will email payment instructions if applicable. Once payment is confirmed, the manuscript advances to the next editorial stage.

In accordance with the principles of scientific integrity outlined in the "Ethics and Research Integrity" section, authors must adhere to Movimento's standards throughout the development and submission of their research. These include the guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the SciELO Guide to Best Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication, Resolutions No. 466/2012 and No. 510/2016 of the Brazilian National Health Council, as well as the Policy on Integrity in Scientific Activity of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).

For research conducted in Brazil, authors must adhere strictly to the national regulations listed above. For studies in other countries, they should follow their local ethical standards and oversight procedures, provided these meet the journal's criteria. Authors are required to specify the relevant regulations and references in the ethical compliance section when submitting their manuscript.

When the journal detects practices that violate scientific integrity or ethical and editorial standards, the Editorial Board will start an investigation. This process will follow the decision-making flowcharts provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), tailored to specific allegations such as authorship issues, plagiarism, duplicate publication, data or image manipulation, or undeclared conflicts of interest. Throughout, it will ensure that all parties involved are given due process and a full opportunity to defend themselves.

Once the analysis is finished and it is confirmed to violate best scientific practices, the appropriate measures can be taken based on the severity of the case:

• Rejection or withdrawal of the manuscript at any point during the editorial process, even after a positive publication decision.

• Issuance of a formal retraction for already published articles, including proper indexing and links to the original text to ensure transparency in scholarly records.

• Publication of an erratum, correction, or editorial statement whenever required.

When errors or inconsistencies are identified that do not constitute misconduct or violate scientific principles, the journal will carry out formal correction procedures to update the scholarly record, ensure transparency and traceability, and preserve the original published version.

Conflicts of interest can be personal, commercial, political, academic, institutional, or financial, and may be actual, potential, or perceived. A conflict of interest is any situation that might influence, or be seen as capable of influencing, the process of preparing, evaluating, or making editorial decisions about a manuscript.

At submission, Movimento asks authors to state any conflicts of interest clearly. This declaration is necessary even if there are no conflicts. If accepted, the conflict declaration will be published with the article in the Editorial Notes section. Authors also agree to disclose any conflicts of interest that arise during the editorial process.

The appointment of reviewers and Section Editors depends on a prior statement that there is no conflict of interest. Usually, the journal uses a double-anonymous peer review process. When appropriate and with the consent of the parties involved, interaction between reviewers and authors may be permitted. Any conflicts of interest must be disclosed if, upon reading the manuscript or from prior knowledge of the field, there are signs of authorship and/or institutional affiliation, even with the anonymous review process. This includes recent collaborations, supervisory roles, co-authorship in an open-review process, or any other circumstance that could compromise impartiality. If a conflict of interest is declared or found at any point during the review, the reviewer or editor will be replaced to maintain the integrity, fairness, and proper flow of the editorial process.

Movimento publishes original work and evaluates only manuscripts that are not simultaneously under review by another journal.

If an article is derived from, continues, or further develops another work published in print or electronic format (e.g., a thesis or dissertation available in a repository, a paper published in conference proceedings, or a book chapter), the authors must provide the reference to that publication for the Editorial Team's information. This information must be provided during the submission process through a dedicated form.

Regardless of this information, upon receiving a submission and before starting the peer-review process, the Movimento Editorial Team conducts a similarity check to compare the manuscript with other published works. This process follows the principles and procedures outlined in the Ethics and Misconduct Policy, Errata, and Retractions.

Movimento recognizes that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and resources has become part of scientific production, including the preparation and editing of manuscripts. However, their use must comply with ethical standards and best practices in scholarly communication and must be duly disclosed throughout the editorial process. Authorship of manuscripts submitted to the journal is restricted to human beings; systems or AI tools may not be credited as authors.

If artificial intelligence (AI) tools or resources have been used in the preparation of a manuscript, their use must be disclosed at the time of submission. The disclosure must identify the tool used, its version, and the purpose for which it was used. The use of these tools will be accepted only when the following conditions are met:

• The tool must have been used exclusively to support translation, language editing, improvements in textual clarity, and compliance with applicable standards. It must not have been used to generate data, results, analyses, or interpretations, or to draft substantive sections of the manuscript.

• After its use, all content must have been critically reviewed and validated by the authors, who assume full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality, and ethical compliance of the manuscript.

• The use of the tool must have complied with the principles of transparency, scientific integrity, and data confidentiality.

Any use of AI or AI-assisted technologies must be declared in a dedicated form at the time of manuscript submission, in accordance with the conditions established above. If the manuscript is accepted and published, the declared uses will be reported in the “Editorial Notes” section.

If irregularities in the use of AI or AI-assisted technologies are identified that violate the conditions established above, the authors will be asked to provide clarification to the Editorial Board, which will examine the matter and make a decision, while ensuring the authors' right to respond and present a defense. If the use of AI in violation of the journal's guidelines is confirmed, the manuscript will be removed from the editorial workflow.

Likewise, reviewers, Section Editors, and copyeditors assigned to peer-review and post-acceptance revision processes must comply with the journal's specific guidelines regarding the use of AI tools and technologies.

At the time of assignment, reviewers are informed that manuscripts and their contents may not be entered, in whole or in part, into generative AI tools during the review process. The use of AI is permitted only for technical support, such as proofreading reviewers' comments, provided it does not involve confidential excerpts from the manuscript and is followed by a full human review. If AI is used, the reviewer must explicitly disclose this in the review report. Failure to disclose such use constitutes an ethical violation.

For Section Editors, inserting manuscripts, either completely or partially, into generative AI tools that may reveal confidential content or authorship details is also prohibited. AI may only be used for tasks that assist the editorial process, such as detecting plagiarism, verifying metadata, and spotting duplicate images or possible inconsistencies. All AI use during the editorial process must be documented internally.

During the copyediting stage, the use of AI will be restricted to the following functions: proofreading, grammatical and spelling corrections, adjustments to the translation of titles, abstracts, and keywords; and ensuring that the text complies with the journal's guidelines.

Movimento adopts the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines as a reference for its editorial practices and instructs authors who publish in the journal to observe them. The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of parameters that guide the consideration of sex and gender in study design, data analysis, and the reporting and interpretation of findings. Movimento considers gender equity in the composition of its Editorial Board.

In line with the journal's commitment to scientific integrity and safeguarding research participants' rights and well-being, studies involving humans must undergo prior review by a Research Ethics Committee (CEP) or an equivalent authority. For research in Brazil, authors are required to submit the Certificate of Presentation for Ethical Review (CAAE) number registered on “Plataforma Brazil,” along with the name of the involved CEP. For international research, authors should provide the equivalent ethics approval or registration mandated by local ethical regulations, provided these meet the journal's standards. If local laws or policies do not require review and approval, authors must include a detailed statement explaining this and affirming adherence to ethical principles for human research. All ethics approval or exemption details should be submitted through the designated form during manuscript submission, following the provided instructions.

Authors retain the copyright to the manuscripts they submit and grant Movimento the right to publish the text in accordance with the open licensing policy adopted by the journal.

Authors assume full responsibility for the opinions and concepts expressed in signed articles and reproduced materials. When a manuscript includes illustrations whose copyright belongs to third parties, authors are likewise responsible for obtaining and providing proof of the appropriate authorization for their use.

Movimento adopts the Creative Commons Atribuição 4.0 Internacional (CC BY 4.0) license and follows the Open Access model, which provides unrestricted online access, including free access, to all scholarly texts published by the journal.

When submitting a manuscript, authors must acknowledge that they are aware of the copyright licensing terms that will apply if the manuscript is accepted and published, as described below:

• Open access is a condition in which the copyright holder of a scholarly work grants third parties’ rights to use the work under an open license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC BY)

• Open access provides free and immediate access to the work, authorizing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles; index them; pass them as data to software; or use them for any other lawful purpose.

Movimento encourages authors to self-archive accepted manuscripts by making them available on personal blogs, institutional repositories, academic social media platforms, and personal profiles, provided that the complete reference to the published version on the journal's website and/or the SciELO Collection page is included.

Movimento receives support from the following organizations:

• Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, through the Journal Publishing Support Program (PAEP/UFRGS).

• The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), through their journal publishing programs. Funding received from both agencies is intermittent and may be discontinued, as the policy for supporting Brazilian scholarly journals does not provide permanent funding.

Movimento publishes original manuscripts in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and French in the following sections:

Announcements: A section dedicated to disseminating official communications, statements, letters, manifestos, and editorial policies on topics directly or indirectly related to Movimento. This is an institutional space managed exclusively by the Editorial Committee and not open to external submissions.

In Focus: A section dedicated to fostering debate on internationally relevant topics initiated by the Editorial Committee or formally proposed by established researchers in the field. Once a section proposal has been defined and approved, a Guest Editor will be appointed to oversee the manuscript review process in accordance with the criteria and regulations established by Movimento. Each section may include up to 8 manuscripts, with most authors affiliated with institutions outside Brazil. The texts must be published in English and simultaneously in Portuguese or one of the other two languages accepted by Movimento: Spanish or French.

Controversial Issues: A section through which Movimento seeks to maintain an ongoing dialogue with the scientific community of which it is part, providing opportunities to update current debates and stimulate reflection on issues related to its specific field of knowledge. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to invite authors to publish in this section. It also encourages others who may wish to engage in these debates. As with the In Focus section, these manuscripts submitted to this section are subject to editorial evaluation by the Editorial Committee.

Original Articles: Research manuscripts presenting original data and findings related to experimental and/or observational aspects of a philosophical, historical, sociocultural, or pedagogical nature, including descriptive analyses and/or inferences supported by original data. Their structure must follow a format recognized in the specific field of knowledge and include sections and subsections for the following elements: Introduction, Theoretical Foundations, Methodological Decisions, Analysis, Discussion, and Conclusion.

Essays: A section dedicated to review articles and/or theoretical-conceptual reflections on a particular topic, written from the author's experience as an essayist. The texts should problematize understandings established in the scientific field and point to interpretations not yet envisioned, without necessarily relying on a literature review or empirical data.

Note 1: The Original Articles and Essays sections operate on a continuous submission basis, allowing authors to submit manuscripts at any time. The Announcements, In Focus, and Controversial Issues sections do not follow a regular publication schedule and are published at the discretion of the Editorial Committee.

Note 2: Submissions of the following are not accepted:

• manuscripts focused exclusively on instrument validation;

• manuscripts in a “question-and-answer” format based on interviews with prominent figures in the field;

• reviews of previously published works, regardless of their nature;

• review articles that do not adopt systematic and rigorous procedures for selecting the literature.

The specific contributions of each author must be described at the time of submission. To record this information, authors are encouraged to consult and use the roles and recommendations of the CRediT taxonomy.

Submission requires a statement signed by all authors confirming that they have made substantial contributions to the work and assume full responsibility for its content.

Before submitting a manuscript to Movimento, authors should carefully read the information available in the About the Journal and Editorial Policies sections, paying close attention to the policies, procedures, and requirements concerning:

• the journal's focus and scope;

• languages;

• the peer-review process;

• conflicts of interest;

• copyright, intellectual property, and terms of use;

• compliance with Open Science principles;

• The Policy on Ethics and Misconduct, Errata, and Retractions;

• the Research Ethics Committee;

• publication fees for accepted manuscripts;

• the use of similarity-checking software;

• the use of artificial intelligence tools and technologies;

• submissions of manuscripts previously deposited as preprints.
   

In addition, authors should be aware that:

• A maximum of two works by the same author or coauthor will be published per year. Therefore, authors should verify compliance with this limit.

• A maximum of two articles by the same author or coauthor may be under evaluation simultaneously. If this limit has been reached, any new submission(s) will be archived without substantive evaluation. Accordingly, the author responsible for the submission must verify with the other authors involved the status of each of their manuscripts currently under consideration by the journal.

For a manuscript to be submitted, all structural and formatting requirements detailed below must be observed and fulfilled. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements will be returned to the authors without substantive evaluation.

Authors must use the TEMPLATE to structure and format their articles. CLICK HERE to download the template.

Articles must be written in Arial, 12-point font, with 1.5-line spacing, and must not exceed 6,000 words, including the title, abstracts, and keywords in three languages (use Tools > Word Count). References are not included in the total word count. Italics should be used only for foreign words and for the expressions “et al.” and “In:”.

The manuscript title should be clear and concise. Authors are advised to avoid titles exceeding 15 words, as well as the use of periods, commas, abbreviations, quotation marks, or ironic tones. Given that Movimento is indexed in major international databases, titles that follow these recommendations are more likely to facilitate search engine identification and retrieval of articles.

Manuscripts must include an abstract (maximum 150 words) and up to four keywords. The abstract should concisely present the study's objectives, methodology, results, and conclusions, providing a clear and comprehensive overview of the work without requiring readers to consult the full text. For keywords, authors are encouraged to use the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS).

At the discretion of the Editorial Committee, manuscripts submitted to the “In Focus” and “Controversial Issues” sections may exceed the word limit specified above.

When preparing the document for submission, authors must remove all identifying information to maintain anonymity during the double-anonymized peer-review process. Accordingly:

• The submitted manuscript must not contain information that could identify the authors, such as the names of institutions, research groups, projects, laboratories, or ethics committee approval numbers.

• The file must also be free of author-identifying information in its properties, which must be removed before submission.

For manuscripts previously deposited in preprint repositories, single-anonymous peer review will be applied. This means reviewers will know the authors' identities, whereas the authors will not know the reviewers'.

It should be noted that in exceptional cases, reviewers' identities may be revealed. Interaction between reviewers and authors may also be allowed if all parties explicitly agree and the Editorial Committee approves.

Illustrations must be inserted into the body of the text and numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals. They must be cited as FIGURE and include a title above and a source below, following the examples provided in the TEMPLATE. Illustrations must allow for accurate reproduction and comply with the font and font-size requirements specified for the article. They must also have a resolution of 200-300 dpi.

In addition to being included in the body of the text, illustrations, specifically photographs and graphic drawings, must also be uploaded separately during the submission process as an “Illustrations” document. Authors should select this option from the document-type menu.

Tables and boxes must be inserted into the body of the text, numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals, and provided with a title. They must comply with the article's font and font-size requirements, following the examples provided in the TEMPLATE.

Tables and boxes should be limited to what is strictly necessary and include the corresponding source. During the final editing of the article, the copyeditors may suggest changes to the number and size of tables and boxes to ensure consistency with the journal's standards. Tables and boxes must not be submitted as images under any circumstances, as their content counts toward the manuscript's total word count.

Movimento follows the standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) concerning the presentation of articles in periodical publications (NBR 6022), references (NBR 6023), abstracts (NBR 6028), the presentation of citations in documents (NBR 10520), and the progressive numbering of sections in a document (NBR 6024), as well as the Tabular Presentation Standard of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Accordingly, manuscripts must comply with these standards.

References correspond to the documents cited in the text, in accordance with NBR 6023. At the end of the manuscript, a list of references must be provided in alphabetical order, aligned with the left margin, and presented under the centered heading REFERENCES. During the manuscript submission process to Movimento, and in accordance with the provisions set out in the About the Journal and Editorial Policy sections, all authors involved in the work must:

• Declare the originality of the manuscript and assume responsibility for its content, confirming that it is not under simultaneous consideration for publication elsewhere.

• Declare that they are aware of the applicable copyright licenses.

• Declare compliance with standards of integrity in scientific activity.

• Declare compliance with applicable research ethics requirements.

• Declare the conditions governing the use of images and illustrations, where applicable.

• Declare whether any conflicts of interest exist.

• Declare and specify the contributions of all authors to the work.

• Provide information on deposits and publications in preprint servers.

• Provide information on data availability.

• Indicate whether they consent to the opening of the peer-review process.

• Declare the use of artificial intelligence.

• Provide information on and specify sources of funding.

All declarations and information required above are consolidated in the form entitled DECLARATIONS AND INFORMATION ON BEST PRACTICES IN SCIENTIFIC COMMUNICATION, which is available for download and editing at this link.

Once all declarations and information have been completed, the file must be converted to PDF format and digitally signed by all authors. This file must be uploaded to the submission system together with the manuscript. Only submissions accompanied by this duly completed form will be eligible to proceed to the editorial review process.

Authors must submit a signed statement indicating whether the research received financial support. If the research received financial support, the corresponding funding source(s) must also be identified.

DOI (Digital Object Identifier) for published manuscripts:

• All accepted manuscripts will be assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) upon final publication in Movimento.
   

Manuscript Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively in digital format through the journal's online submission system, accessible via the "New Submission" link.

To initiate the submission process, the corresponding author must have an active account in the Movimento submission system. Authors who already have an account may log in with their username and password, then select "New Submission" to begin the process.

Authors who do not yet have an account must first register by selecting the "Register" link.

After logging into the system and selecting "New Submission" authors will be guided through a three-step submission process.

Preparation for Publication

Once accepted, the manuscript will proceed to the copyediting stage, which includes the following steps:

• Bibliographic review and formal standardization: verification of the conformity of citations, references, text formatting, figures, boxes, and tables with the journal's requirements. At this stage, the Editorial Committee may make grammatical, stylistic, and formatting revisions if they do not alter the scientific content of the manuscript.

• Review of keywords and metadata: verification and standardization of keywords, titles, abstracts, and other metadata to ensure consistency between the manuscript and the information recorded in the editorial platform.

After copyediting, the manuscript is returned to the authors for review and final approval. They have 15 days to submit the revised version. 

If the authors do not address the requested revisions or resolve any outstanding formatting and editorial issues, the submission will be archived, even if the manuscript has already been accepted following peer review.

After approval of the final version, the manuscript will proceed to typesetting, XML markup, and publication.

Bilingual Publication

Given Movimento's international reach, the Editorial Committee encourages authors of accepted manuscripts to make a second-language version of their work available. An English version may accompany manuscripts originally written in Portuguese or Spanish, while manuscripts originally submitted in English may also be accompanied by a Portuguese or Spanish version. Any translated version should be prepared only after the manuscript has received final approval, thereby avoiding additional costs during the submission and peer-review process.

Translation costs are the responsibility of the authors. Any translated version must meet the journal's academic, terminological, and linguistic standards, and authors are responsible for ensuring its quality and full correspondence with the approved manuscript. Any use of Artificial Intelligence tools in the translation process must comply with the journal's guidelines. If the translated version does not meet the journal's standards, the Editorial Committee may decide to publish only the approved original version.
