The Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology (BABT), is a scientific journal
published by the Paraná Institute of Technology - Tecpar, since 1946. It publishes
original articles and review articles in the following areas: Agriculture, Agribusiness and
Biotechnology; Human and Animal Health; Biological and Applied Sciences; Food /
Feed Science and Technology; Environmental Sciences; Engineering, Technology and
Techniques.

The chief editors are responsible for the mission, objectives, policy and setting the
editorial criteria, striving for the high quality of the articles, which will compose the journal in the dissemination of research results and scientific and technological
advances aimed at promoting the progress of science. . It is also responsible for the
supervision of the editorial office, which operates the workflow with the assistance of
the Scholar One.Manuscripts System.

In order to promote the continuous improvement of the journal and published articles,
as well as to provide researchers with new information on their thematic area, the
editors conducts a prior analysis of the submitted manuscripts for scientific and / or
technological relevance, innovative character or applicable results in specific problem
solving.

Manuscripts to be considered for publication must be submitted by the authors through
the ScholarOne Manuscripts ™ online system, strictly observing the information
available for publication available on the BABT page at SCIELO:
www.scielo.br/revistas/babt/iinstruc.htm. Manuscripts that do not comply with the
standards set for publication will be automatically rejected.

When submitting an article, the authors assign the copyright and use of all its content
to the BABT, if it is approved for publication, but the opinions expressed in the texts are
the sole responsibility of the authors.

Similarities will be verified in the manuscripts through specific plagiarism verification
software, providing a report to support the decision regarding the originality and
originality of the text. Manuscripts with 40% or greater similarity will be automatically
rejected.

The selected articles should have originality and scientific or technological innovation
that fit the journal's publishing areas, providing increased visibility and recognition in the scientific environment, corroborating also the increase of the impact factor of the
journal.

The Editorial Board is composed of Brazilian and foreign researchers specialized in the
journal's areas, with credibility and recognition from the national and international
scientific community. The criteria for selection of its members is linked to recent
production in the specific area and the timeliness of evaluations. The permanence of
the board members is reevaluated every two years, subject to their scientific production
(number of citations and index h) through validation in the Lattes Platform or ISI and
Scopus basis.

Manuscripts pre-selected by the BABT Scientific Editor are sent to at least two experts
from the Editorial Board, or from ad hoc BABT referees and consultants. Thus, these
specialists are responsible for evaluating the quality and relevance of manuscripts
submitted for publication. Brazilian evaluators are selected based on their expertise,
according to the Lattes Platform, and foreigners based on their reputation in the
corresponding area based on the ISI and Scopus platform.

The assistant editor, with the collaboration of the other team members, is responsible
for the management, monitoring, and control of incoming manuscripts.

For technical support, the team has the support of three employees properly trained to
provide technical support related to infrastructure, system and users.

When submitting the article, the authors must send a cover letter to the editor,
summarizing the findings of his manuscript, showing that it is in the interest of the
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology to publish it, that it is original and has
been not submitted or published previously elsewhere. Moreover, the cover letter
should clearly address Biology or Technology area of Knowledge. And that there are
no conflicts of interest associated with the manuscript and meet all applicable
standards regarding the ethics of experimentation and research, and there are no
duplicate publications, fraud, plagiarism, or concerns about animal or human
experimentation.

The cover letter must follow the template form attached here.

The manuscript must be prepared in English only. We suggest that the manuscript
should be reviewed before it's submission for the first time by an English native
speaker and, preferably, scientific experience in the area. In addition, assistance of
independent editing services can be found at http://journalexperts.com.

All services are paid for and arranged by the author and use of one of these services
does not guarantee acceptance or preference for publication.

IMPORTANT:

1. For submission of manuscripts, the authors must inform their ORCID ID,
without this data, the manuscript will be returned. https://orcid.org/

2. The manuscript must be submitted in accordance with the available template
and within all BABT submission policies. If the manuscript does not meet the
submission criteria, it will be returned to the author for the necessary
adjustments.

The template details the sections that can be used in a manuscript. Sections that are
not mandatory are listed as such. The section titles given are for Articles. Review
papers have a more flexible structure. Please use the styles present on the template.
Manuscript must have a maximum of 15 pages including all article elements as
figures, tables, and references. Longer manuscripts will be immediately rejected. For any questions, please contact the editorial office of the journal on babt@tecpar.br.

The template can be found attached here. Below is a guide to the styles contained in
the file.

Title (Font: Arial 20 and Bold)

Must be precise, clearly reflecting the content of the manuscript. (Put each word in
upper case).

Author's full name 1 (Font: Arial 10 and Bold)

https://orcid.org/0000-0000-0000-0000 (Font: Arial 10)

Affiliation must be submitted in English, as example:

University, College, Department, City, State, Country;
(Font: Arial 10)

Running Title (Font: Arial 9)

Must be short, reflecting the content of the manuscript. (Maximum 40 characters).

Highlights

Research highlights concisely summarize the core findings and provide readers with an
overview of the paper. They include three to five bullet points describing the main
achievements of the research (e.g., results or conclusions) and highlight what is unique
about the study.

Include 3 to 5 highlights.

Maximum 85 characters in each highlight including spaces.

Only the core results of the paper should be covered.

Write the research highlight in the present tense.

Be concise and specific.

Abstract (Font: Arial 11 and Bold)

A single paragraph of about 250 words maximum. For research articles, abstracts
should give a pertinent overview of the work. We strongly encourage authors to use the
following style of structured abstracts, but without headings: (1) Background: Place the
question addressed in a broad context and highlight the purpose of the study; (2)
Methods: Describe briefly the main methods or treatments applied; (3) Results:
Summarize the article's main findings; and (4) Conclusion: Indicate the main
conclusions or interpretations. The abstract should be an objective representation of
the article, it must not contain results that are not presented and substantiated in the
main text and should not exaggerate the main conclusion. (Text: Font Arial 11).

Keywords (Font: Arial 11 and Bold)

keyword 1; keyword 2; keyword 3. List three to ten pertinent keywords specific to the
article; yet reasonably common within the subject discipline. (Text: Font Arial 11).

Graphical Abstract (Optional)

A Graphical Abstract is a single, concise, pictorial and visual summary of the main
findings of the article. This could either be the concluding figure from the article or a
figure that is specially designed for the purpose, which captures the content of the
article for readers at a single glance.

Introduction (Font: Arial 11, Bold and Caps Lock)

The introduction should briefly place the study in a broad context and highlight why it is
important. It should define the purpose of the work and its significance. The current
state of the research field should be reviewed carefully, and key publications cited.
Please highlight controversial and diverging hypotheses when necessary. Finally,
briefly mention the main aim of the work. References should be numbered in order of
appearance and indicated by a numeral or numerals in square brackets, e.g., [1] or
[2,3], or [4–6]. See the end of the document for further details on references. (Text:

Materials and Methods (Font: Arial 11, Bold and Caps Lock)

Material and Methods should be described with sufficient details to allow others to
replicate and build on published results. Please note that publication of your manuscript
implicates that you must make all materials, data, computer code, and protocols
associated with the publication available to readers. Please disclose at the submission
stage any restrictions on the availability of materials or information in cover letter. New
methods and protocols should be described in detail while well-established methods
can be briefly described and appropriately cited. This section may be divided by
subheadings as reported below. (Text: Font Arial 11).

Tables

Must be numbered consecutively in Arabic digits and inserted in proper place in the
text. A brief and descriptive title must be included above each table and the
explanations put below as a subtitle.

Formatting of Tables:

- Title and content: Font Arial 10.

- Footnotes: Font Arial 10.

- Vertical and Diagonal lines must not be used in tables.

- The tables must be elaborated and edited in cells, using the resources of the text
editor. Observation: Tables in figure format (jpg, tiff or png) are not accepted, or that
contain lines drawn.

Figures

Must be numbered consecutively in Arabic digits and cited in the text in numerical
order.

- Figures should be submitted preferably in color.

-Images must be adjusted to the width (16.5 cm) of the page and must be smaller than
the page to allow the inclusion of the subtitle.

- Figures must be presented in separated file and in .tiff format with a minimum of 300
dpi.

Illustrations must be cited in the text with the word "Figure", without being abbreviated when it is part of a sentence.

- When figures present different parts, each one must be indicated by uppercase (Fig.
1 A, B, C, etc.).

Formulas and Equations

Formulas and equations must not be in image format.

Results (Font: Arial 11, Bold and Caps Lock)

This section may be also divided by subheadings. It should provide a concise and
accurate description of the experimental results, their interpretation as well as the
experimental conclusion that can be drawn. (Text: Font Arial 11).

Discussion (Font: Arial 11, Bold and Caps Lock)

Authors should discuss the results and how they can be interpreted in perspective of
previous studies and of the working hypotheses. The findings and their implications
should be discussed in the broadest context possible. Future research directions may
also be highlighted. (Text: Font Arial 11).

Conclusions (Font: Arial 11, Bold and Caps Lock)

This section is not mandatory but can be added to the manuscript if the discussion is
unusually long or complex. (Text: Font Arial 11).

Patents (Font: Arial 11, Bold and Caps Lock)

This section is not mandatory but may be added if there are patents resulting from the
work reported in this manuscript. (Text: Font Arial 10)

Funding (Font: Arial 10 and Bold)

Please add: "This research received no external funding" or "This research was funded
by NAME OF FUNDER, grant number XXX". Check carefully that the details given are accurate. (Text: Font Arial 10)

Acknowledgments (Font: Arial 10 and Bold)

In this section you can acknowledge any support given which is not covered by the
author contribution or funding sections. This may include administrative and technical
support, or donations in kind (e.g., materials used for experiments). (Text: Font Arial
10)

Conflicts of Interest (Font: Arial 10 and Bold)

Declare conflicts of interest or state, "The authors declare no conflict of interest."
Authors must identify and declare any personal circumstances or interest that may be
perceived as inappropriately influencing the representation or interpretation of reported
research results. Any role of the funders in the design of the study; in the collection,
analyses or interpretation of data; in the writing of the manuscript, or in the decision to
publish the results must be declared in this section. If there is no role, please state,
"The funders had no role in the design of the study; in the collection, analyses, or
interpretation of data; in the writing of the manuscript, or in the decision to publish the

References (Font Arial 11, Bold and Caps Lock)

References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text (including citations in
tables and legends) and listed individually at the end of the manuscript. We
recommend preparing the references with a bibliography software package, such as
EndNote, Reference Manager or Zotero to avoid typing mistakes and duplicated
references. In the text, reference numbers should be placed in square brackets [ ], and
placed before the punctuation; for example [1], [1–3] or [1,3].

Reference list should be in Font 10, with organized in numerical order. The full list of
references, at the end of the article, must follow the Vancouver style:

- Important Note: 

There will be no restrictions on the reference article source language, despite the
recommendation be in English, however the title should be translated and presented in
English, between brackets

Important:

1. Save the file in .doc or .docx format.

2. The file name should be the manuscript ID

There is no fee for online access, submission and evaluation articles.

- Template filled with the manuscript contend

Completing Publishing Process

The journal submits the final test of the revised and ready article for publication to the
author of correspondence with the period of 1 (one) week for review and correction of
the article. If the deadline for response expires without a return of the authors, the
magazine considers that the article is approved (since the author has not spoken about
the need for any changes / fixes) and therefore ready for publication.

An erratum applies only to cases where the journal has effectively wrong without the
knowledge of the author. The author has a number of instances where errors /
mistakes can and should be corrected such as author name, keywords, title, errors in
the main text, etc.
