A year of progress, achievements, and hopeWe close 2025 with a clear sense that Revista Bioética has experienced one of the most meaningful years in its editorial history. It was a period marked by intense work, institutional maturation, and achievements that reflect the team’s commitment to ethics, scientific quality, and the strengthening of bioethical dialogue in Brazil and worldwide, in line with international principles of editorial transparency 1.
Throughout this year, we consolidated advances that not long ago seemed out of reach. We published 75 articles online and three print issues, all marked by thematic diversity, methodological rigor, and deep sensitivity to contemporary issues in health, science, and social life. The growing presence of authors from Latin America, as well as our consistent cooperation with Portugal, reinforces the journal’s international vocation and strengthens our participation in global debates on ethics, health, and public policy.
We also celebrated the historic milestone of a special print edition produced for the 80th anniversary of the Federal Council of Medicine. Additionally, this special edition was translated into English and distributed during the 17th World Conference on Bioethics, Medical Ethics, and Health Law, held in Slovenia 2—an initiative that firmly positions Revista Bioética as an active representative of Brazilian scientific production in international settings.
In terms of visibility and indexation, 2025 was equally significant. We maintained our presence in key databases—DOAJ, SciELO, Redalyc, Latindex, LILACS, and the Virtual Health Library 3—and celebrated the consolidation of our indexation in Scopus, a recognition that expands our international reach and reaffirms the journal’s credibility 4. The stability of our bibliometric indicators shows that the work undertaken is on the right path and supports the strategic goals set for the coming years 5.
All these advances were only possible thanks to the continuous strengthening of our editorial workflow, in line with international ethical and technical recommendations 1,6. We shortened processing times, improved internal procedures, and significantly raised the journal’s technical standards. Partnerships were essential in this process: Lépidus ensured technological modernization and ongoing improvements to the OJS platform; Tikinet provided high-quality linguistic editing, copyediting, and trilingual translation; and Caboverde XML contributed directly to technical standardization. At the same time, peer review was enhanced by means of more structured guidance for reviewers, resulting in more solid and transparent editorial governance aligned with the best scientific practices 6,7.
And as the end of the year invites us to look ahead, we turn our attention to 2026 with ambitious and necessary goals. Among them are the expansion of our institutional presence, the strengthening of our participation in strategic events, and the development of new partnerships with bioethics programs in Brazil and abroad. Above all, we will move forward with one of the major challenges on the horizon: submitting Revista Bioética to new indexing databases, thereby consolidating our internationalization process and further expanding the journal’s impact and visibility.
As we reflect on all of this, it becomes clear that 2025 was a year of achievements, but also of tireless work, collective learning, and the reaffirmation of values that guide our trajectory: ethics, public commitment, scientific responsibility, and dedication to building a plural, critical, and socially relevant bioethics.
At this moment of closure and celebration, we extend our deepest gratitude to the authors, reviewers, readers, partners, and team members who, with generosity and competence, contributed to every accomplishment recorded here. May 2026 be a year of even greater growth, dialogue, and shared construction.
We wish everyone a peaceful holiday season filled with rest and renewal, and may the new year find us strengthened, inspired, and committed to a science that is increasingly ethical, humane, and transformative.
