Fundamentos do quadro epistemológico do interacionismo sociodiscursivo e dos pressupostos bakhtinianos ressoam neste artigo, cujo objetivo principal é o de averiguar os possíveis benefícios, para o ensino de língua portuguesa, de dois instrumentos pedagógicos: sequência didática e lista de controle/constatações, que são ferramentas exploradas pelos pesquisadores de Didática das Línguas da Universidade de Genebra, como potencializadoras do ensino. Decorrentes deste objetivo, avaliamos as capacidades de ação, discursivas e linguístico-discursivas de uma produção escrita do gênero "resumo acadêmico" e as distintas interações ocorridas durante as intervenções escritas. A análise possibilita a conclusão de que tais ferramentas constituem instrumentos didáticos da mestria de práticas de linguagem (re) configuradas em gêneros textuais.

Fundamentals of the epistemological framework of sociodiscursive interactionism and of Bakhtinian presuppositions rebound in this article, whose main aim is to ascertain the possible benefits, for the teaching of Portuguese, of two pedagogical instruments: didactic sequencing and control/findings list, which are explored, by Language Didactics researchers from the University of Geneva, as teaching enhancers. Consequently, we evaluate the discursive and linguistic-discursive capacities of a written production of the academic genre 'abstract' as t and the distinct interactions which occurred during the written interventions. The analysis enables the conclusion that such tools constitute didactic instruments for the mastery of language practices (re)figured in textual genres.

Neste artigo, investigamos o funcionamento discursivo da referenciação enquanto atividade linguística de acordo com a qual os objetos são construídos e reproduzidos nas práticas discursivas. Buscamos examinar o processo de lexicalização na construção do objeto-de-discurso "Guerra no Iraque" pela Revista Veja, utilizando teorias que investigam o papel da mídia na produção e disseminação de práticas simbólicas. Vimos como tais práticas se fazem essenciais para a construção da nossa visão de mundo, principalmente no âmbito das relações internacionais. Procuramos articular esses estudos com a teoria da Análise Crítica do Discurso proposta por van Dijk, para que pudéssemos compreender o funcionamento discursivo dos processos de referenciação nessas práticas simbólicas. Observamos que a referenciação, enquanto prática de nomeação dos eventos internacionais, constitui-se em importante objeto de análise na medida em que nos revela as crenças ideológicas do sujeito socioculturalmente localizado e é um elemento fundamental na construção de nossas visões dos eventos sociais.

In this paper, we investigate the discursive role of referenciation as a discursive activity of introduction of referents. We examine the lexicalization process in the introduction of the referent "Iraq War" in the Brazilian Magazine Veja, working with theories that investigate the role of media in the production and dissemination of symbolic practices. These practices are essential for the construction of our view of the world, especially in the field of international relations. Through the articulation of these studies and the critical discourse analysis developed by van Dijk, we try to understand the discursive role of referenciation in the symbolic practices of the media. We conclude that referenciation is an important object of analysis that reveals the ideological positions of socio-culturally situated subjects and as such is a central element in the construction of our views of social events.

O presente trabalho visa analisar os significados sociais construídos pelo layout da primeira página dos jornais mineiros Estado de Minas e Super Notícia. O referencial teórico adotado é o da Semiótica Social (HODGE; KRESS, 1988; JEWITT, 2009; KRESS, 2010; KRESS; VAN LEEUWEN, 1996, 2001, 2006; MACHIN, 2007), que concebe os textos a partir de uma perspectiva multimodal, abrangendo a análise de todos os recursos semióticos utilizados em um tipo de texto, a fim de que se obtenha a compreensão total do seu significado. A metodologia do trabalho é baseada no sistema de "significados composicionais", definido por Kress e van Leeuven (1996, 1998, 2006) como a forma pela qual os recursos representacionais e interativos são integrados para estruturar os elementos do layout e conferir-lhes coerência e unidade de significação, através de três sistemas inter-relacionados: "valor informacional", "saliência" e "emolduramento". Os resultados da análise indicam que o layout do Estado de Minas parece oferecer uma estrutura semiótica orientada para a ampla formação dos leitores; contudo, sugere representações tendenciosas dos atores sociais pertencentes ao domínio da política. Já o layout do Super Notícia possui uma estrutura semiótica assistemática, parecendo habituar seus leitores a informações voltadas para o consumo, sexo e violência.

This paper aims at analyzing the social meanings constructed through the layout of the front page of two Brazilian newspapers: Estado de Minas and Super Notícia. The theoretical framework adopted is Social Semiotics (HODGE & KRESS, 1988; JEWITT, 2009; KRESS, 2010; KRESS & VAN LEEUWEN, 1996, 2001, 2006; MACHIN, 2007), which conceive the texts from a multimodal perspective, covering the analysis of all the semiotic resources used in a type of text in order to obtain full understanding of its meaning. The methodology is based on network systems concerning "compositional meanings", defined by Kress & van Leeuwen (1996, 1998, 2006) as the way in which representational and interactive features are integrated to design the elements of the layout and give it coherence and unity of meaning through three interrelated systems: "informational value", "salience" and "framing". The results indicate that the layout of Estado de Minas seems to offer a semiotic structure oriented to the social and cultural development of the readers; however, it suggests biased representations of social actors from the realm of politics. On the other hand, the layout of Super Notícia presents a unsystematic semiotic structure, apparently familiarizing its readers with information oriented to consumption, sex and violence.

Nosso objetivo neste trabalho é discutir a função das categorias gramaticais atributo simbólico e portador na Gramática do Design Visual (KRESS e van LEEUWEN, 2006 [1996]). Para os autores, estes constituintes, pertencentes à metafunção ideacional, poderiam estar presentes ou não em estruturas conceituais simbólicas, conferindo a um participante um valor que o caracterizaria e/ou o conceituaria. Advogamos aqui que, decorrente dessa função, os atributos simbólicos e os portadores são responsáveis pela realização de inferências por parte dos leitores de imagens e, portanto, estão sempre presentes em quaisquer representações visuais. Em virtude disso, entendemos que as representações conceituais simbólicas não estão no mesmo nível de autonomia que as representações narrativas e conceituais classificatórias e analíticas, e sim num nível de subjacência.

Our aim in this article is to discuss the function of the grammatical categories symbolic attribute and carrier in the Grammar of Visual Design (Kress and van Leeuwen, 2006 [1996]). For the authors, these constituents, belonging to the ideational metafunction, could be present or not in symbolic conceptual structures, giving a participant a value that would characterize and/or conceptualize him. We advocate that, as a result of the ideational function, symbolic attributes and carriers are responsible for the production of inferences by the readers of images and, therefore, are always present in any visual representation. As a result, we believe that symbolic conceptual representations are not at the same level of autonomy as classifying and analytical narrative and conceptual representations, but at the level of underlying patterns.

Este trabalho investiga o papel da consistência e da frequência do input lexical na leitura em L2 de forma a destacar duas importantes características do conexionismo dinamicista na leitura: a combinação não-linear de restrições probabilísticas e a divisão de trabalho. Essas características são complementares e, juntas, explicam a alta interação observada em investigações baseadas na premissa de que o input é uma combinação rica de diferentes tipos de informação cujas tendências emergentes guiam a aquisição. Para ilustrar isso, são apresentadas evidências de dois estudos, que tratam: 1) da interação entre os efeitos da frequência e da consistência do input lexical na prevalência da assimilação vocálica durante uma tarefa de leitura de palavras com estudantes brasileiros de inglês; 2) do papel dos fonastemas na construção da compreensão textual em inglês (L2).

This paper looks into the role of lexical input consistency and frequency in L2 reading to highlight two important features of dynamic connectionism in reading: nonlinear combination of probabilistic constraints and division of labour. Such features are complementary and together they account for the interaction observed in investigations grounded on the postulate that the input is a rich combination of different types of information whose emerging biases guide acquisition. For that purpose, evidence is presented from two studies, which deal with: 1) the interaction between the effects of English lexical frequency and consistency in the prevalence of vowel assimilation during a word naming task among Brazilian students of English; 2) the role of phonastemes in building textual comprehension in English (L2).

Este artigo investiga as funções metapragmáticas de and everything em persa como parte da construção formulaica and everything, but. Nosso foco de atenção será, seguindo Bublitz e Hübler (2007), a função metapragmática desse meta-enunciado no momento em que ele é efetivamente usado como meio de comentar sobre e interferir no discurso corrente. Dessa forma, argumentaremos que embora essa construção em persa, como seu equivalente em inglês, não possua uma estrutura subjacente fixa que determina seu funcionamento, ela permite, diferentemente de seu equivalente em inglês, a construção de outras estruturas de superfície que desempenham o mesmo papel pragmático. Essas estruturas de superfície são produzidas pelo uso de diferentes sinônimos persas para a palavra inglesa but. Além disso, argumentaremos que o persa parece não possuir um equivalente formal para a construção inglesa and whatnot.

This article tries to investigate the metapragmatic functions of and everything in Persian within the formulaic construction and everything, but. The focus of attention will be, following Bublitz and Hübler (2007), the pragmatics of this meta-utterance when it is actually performed as a means of commenting on and interfering with current discourse. In this way, it will be argued that although this construction, like its equivalent in English, does have a fixed underlying structure according to which it functions, it allows, unlike its English equivalent, for the construction of other surface structures fulfilling the same metapragmatic role. Here surface constructions are brought about by the use of Persian's different synonyms for the English but. Moreover, it will also be argued that Persian does not seem to have a formal equivalent to the English and whatnot.

Neste ensaio discute-se a questão da "primazia" de um dos termos da dicotomia sentido literal/sentido metafórico. Partindo-se de um breve percurso histórico, são considerados alguns pontos relevantes para articular o tema, e examina-se uma tese sobre o funcionamento da metáfora utilizando a abordagem da Análise do Discurso, através da qual se admite que uma variedade de fenômenos converge como produção de metáfora, o que leva à possibilidade de diluição da dicotomia. Nessa direção, a metáfora surge da circulação de bagagem linguístico-discursiva entre as formações discursivas, entendidas como instâncias de formação/repetição/transformação de elementos do saber - componentes de uma memória de discursos -, saber que sofre constante reconfiguração e é levado a incorporar elementos produzidos no exterior de uma formação dada, produzindo efeitos de sentido variados.

In this article the issue of the "primacy" of one of the terms of the literal sense/metaphorical sense dichotomy is discussed. Beginning with a brief historical account, a few relevant points are considered to articulate the theme, and a thesis about the functioning of the metaphor is examined, from the viewpoint of French discourse analysis. From this perspective, we believe that a variety of phenomena converge to produce metaphors, which leads to the possibility of the dilution of the dichotomy. Thus, metaphors originate from the circulation of linguistic-discursive contents among the discursive formations, here understood as instances of formation/repetition/transformation of knowledge elements -components of a memory of discourses -, a knowledge that is constantly reconfigured and that is lead to incorporate elements produced outside of a given formation, thus producin g varied meaning effects.

Desde a década de 1980, a partir da proposta pioneira de Geraldi (1984) de incorporar, no ensino da Língua Portuguesa, o eixo de análise linguística, muitas publicações se destacaram no meio acadêmico. No entanto, a maioria delas contemplou o assunto apenas teoricamente. Esta produção, no entanto, pretende ir além. É uma tentativa de análise de um texto do gênero Relato Histórico, tanto discutindo a orientação teórica que dá sustentação à análise linguística, quanto apresentando exemplos de possíveis encaminhamentos práticos para a sala de aula. Para isso, pautar-nos-emos na teoria da enunciação e dos gêneros discursivos (Bakhtin, 2003 e 2004) e dos gêneros textuais (Bronckart, 2003), recorrendo, em determinados momentos, à Linguística Textual (Koch, 1989, 1990; Costa Val, 1999). Na verdade, pretendemos apresentar uma amostra de análise linguística, sem a pretensão de torná-la única ou exclusiva nos encaminhamentos efetuados. O propósito reside em contribuir com a orientação de possíveis olhares para o texto, compreendendo-o quanto à sua situação de produção e ao seu conteúdo temático, quanto ao gênero que o materializa e quanto às marcas linguísticas que o constituem.

Since the 1980s, from Geraldi's (1984) pioneering proposal of incorporating, in the teaching of Portuguese, the axis of linguistic analysis, many publications have achieved academic relevance. However, most of them have only considered the topic theoretically. This article, however, intends to go further. It is an attempt of analysing an examplar from the genre historical report, discussing the theoretical orientation that gives support to the linguistic analysis and presenting examples of possible practical suggestions for the classroom. To do so, we make use of utterance theory (Bakhtin, 2003 e 2004) and genre theory (Bronckart, 2003), making use, at certain moments, of Textual Linguistics (Koch, 1989, 1990; Costa Val, 1999). We intend, with this, to present a sample of linguistic analysis, with no intention of regarding it as unique or exclusive. The objective is to contribute to the area of text analysis, considering the text in terms of its production context, its genre and its linguistic features.

Muito se tem falado acerca da inconsistência da noção de referente empírico e da necessidade de se adotar uma concepção processual da referenciação. Contudo, a perspectiva processual apresenta inconsistências por não adotar uma metodologia que analise efetivamente o discurso e por não perceber o caráter dialético envolvendo a instabilidade e a estabilidade referencial. O objetivo deste artigo é discutir as relações entre as noções de dialogismo e referenciação buscando investigar em que medida se pode dizer que a referenciação tem essencialmente uma natureza dialógica. A análise realizada busca correlacionar as escolhas léxico-gramaticais para referir as vozes sociais que as orientam, de modo a se poder explicar efetivamente os objetos de discurso. O estudo indica que a noção de instabilidade referencial pode ser mais bem compreendida se vista em correlação à noção de estabilidade referencial, uma vez que mudanças léxico-gramaticais encontradas nos textos podem indicar tanto instabilidade como estabilidade referencial.

Much has been discussed about the inconsistency of the empirical referent and the need to use a processual conception of referentiation. However, the processual perspective presents inconsistencies because it does not use a methodology that really analyzes the discourse and does not take into account the dialectical perspective that involves referential stability and instability. This article aims at discussing the relations between the notions of dialogism and referentiation, trying to investigate under which circumstances one can say referentiation has a dialogical nature. The analysis tries to correlate the lexicogrammar choices to refer to the social voices that orient them, so that one can explain the discourse objects. The study indicates that the notion of referential instability can be better understood when one sees it in correlation to referential stability, since the lexicogrammatical changes found in texts can indicate not only referential instability but also referential stability.
