United Nations facing the cultural relativism: the case of Human Rights in the muslim world

The universal character of the Declaration of Human Rights formulated by the United Nations has been a frequent topic of political and academic debate. In this debate, this article aims to know how the UN acts in defense of human rights in Islamic countries where the legitimacy of its document is relativized, given the religious particularities. It is in view of the divergences of the documents of two International Organizations that it is proposed here to analyze cases of conflicts between distinct legitimacy: the UN Human Rights Charter and the Islamic Law reaffirmed in the Cairo Declaration of 1990 and adopted by the Organization of the Conference Islam. With interest in the cases of defense of rights of freedom of religion and of expression, specifically, a documentary research of qualitative character was carried out. As a result, it is above all the recommended form of action of the body that centralizes the activities of the UN in the field of Human Rights.
