Two field experiments, of peanuts (Arachis hipogaea. L.) were carried out in Vilhena and Ouro Freto D'Oeste to test five cultivars (Tatu, Kltika, Makap, Penapolis and VC-42). A randomized complete block desing was used, with four repetitions in Ouro Preto D'Oeste and five repetitions in Vilhena. The results showed that the Spanish and Virgina types were viable. In two experiments, and grain yield was superior In Ouro Preto D'Oeste (2.235 to 2.677 kg/ha) and inferior in Vilhena (1 .060 to 2.220 kg/ha), probably as a consequence of better soil fertllity in a recently cleared three yeans old fallow.
