In this month of April, when the Brazilian Archives of Cardiology is delivered to the homes of colleagues throughout the country, we commemorate an important achievement: that of dynamically participating in the ACC - the American College of Cardiology - which this year was held in Orlando, Florida.
This is the second time that it's happened. Last year, the SBC/ACC Joint Session, with lectures from Brazilian and American cardiologists, was a huge success. The invitation made by the President of the event, James Dove, and by the President of the Scientific Committee, Mark Shelton, was indeed an acknowledgement of our capacity and significance, thanks to our extensive scientific production, which encompasses from congenital cardiopathy to molecular biology.
The novelty of the participation, which had been previously limited to the Germans and the Japanese, was repeated. During this edition, even with the inclusion of symposia from other countries - there were events with the Canadians, the French, the Chinese, the Indians, and the Saudis, among others - the SBC/ACC Joint Session was highlighted by the participation of an ex-President of the American College of Cardiology and one of the leading authorities in coronary reperfusion, Prof. Bates, in addition to the main investigator of the "Courage" study, Prof. William Boden.
The presentation of the "Acute Coronary Failure" theme by the Brazilians reflected the obvious recognition of the Americans for the work that the national Cardiology has developed in this area. I am sure that, once again, we made history and further strengthened the partnership between SBC and ACC.
The colleagues who were in the United States were offered a high-level program. For the ones who stayed here, the site of SBC at www.cardiol.br offers special program and coverage of the event, so that everyone can follow the most important events that took place at the American College of Cardiology.
