The challenges of the Teaching Area: “By walking, you pave the way”

Abstract

Brazilian postgraduate education has been the stage for intense debates and transformations. In recent years, it has faced obstacles such as the devaluation of science and education, the loss of trained professionals to foreign institutions, a decrease in demand for postgraduate programs, low scholarship values, and instability in the Ministry of Education and the coordination of CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel). Given the complexity of the system, challenges arise that demand from the academic community the ability to criticize and seek intelligent and strategic solutions. This text presents topics inherent to the field of Education, considering its trajectory, epistemology, fields of action, and configuration, as well as some challenges to be faced by the field, such as local and regional asymmetries, the establishment of criteria for the construction of a multidimensional evaluation, the access and adherence of students and teachers, the lack of inclusive and welcoming policies regarding diversity, the expansion of dialogue with the academic community, the pursuit of an understanding of what innovation and knowledge transfer mean in the field, and strategic approaches to the field's participation in decisions affecting education in the country. To address these challenges, involvement, critical thinking, and creativity are necessary.
