Márcia Strazzacappa About the author

For a long time, body's movement at school has been treated as a prize or a punishment. Physical immobility works as a punishment and freedom of movement works as a prize. These procedures show that to move is a pleasure and to stay still is uncomfortable. But, if movement is the way that people express themselves, what kind of people are we educating if we repress their expression? This article discuss the introduction of dance studies in school, based on the work is being developed with the students of the Dance Department at the State University of Campinas. It also shows the experience of the teachers who participated in a workshop "artistic body's activities for teachers of basic education" realized in Tupã (SP).
