Austin, como se sabe, toma a existência de um procedimento convencional aceito como condição primeira de felicidade de qualquer performativo. Mas isso coloca um problema, que o filósofo inglês não chega a considerar até suas últimas conseqüências. Refiro-me ao fato de que um certo performativo - a aceitação - está inscrito na própria estrutura da performatividade. Ou seja, todo performativo exige um 'Aceito', que, por sua vez, exige um 'Aceito'- e assim ao infinito. Aceitar - essa condição de felicidade de todo performativo - é um ato, no limite, impossível de ser objetivado. Trata-se, neste ensaio, de pensar, a partir de Austin, a vida como um vir-a-aceitar, tema correlativo ao já clássico tópico da vida como vir-a-ser. Trata-se, em seguida, de pensar a forma propriamente moderna de lidar com esse vir-a-aceitar. Para tanto, vou propor uma articulação entre a filosofia austiniana e as reflexões de Calligaris (1997) sobre a modernidade.

According to Austin, the first condition of happiness of a performative utterance is the existence of "an accepted conventional procedure". We have a curious situation here, and Austin recognizes it, at least in part. In fact, if a performative - the act of accepting - is inscribed in the very structure of performativity, then every performative - including accepting - presupposes an act of accepting, which, in its turn, presupposes an act of accepting, and so on. Accepting - not merely a regular performative, but a condition of the happiness of every performative - is, in the final analysis, is impossible to totalize. In this essay, following Austin's statements, I make an attempt to define life as comingto-accept, a topic analogous to the classical topic of life as coming-to-be. After this, I will try to articulate Austinian philosophy of language to Contardo Calligaris' considerations on modernity, in order to delineate the modern way of dealing with life as comingto-accept.

O presente artigo articula uma relação possível entre tradução e corpo a partir de uma perspectiva pragmática e não-sublimada da significação, tal como sugerida por Wittgenstein em suas Investigações Filosóficas. A partir da consideração de formulações teóricas no realismo encarnado e em campos afins sobre o papel do corpo na cognição e da análise crítica do conceito de somática da tradução, formulado por Douglas Robinson (1991), o trabalho aponta para o caráter situado e social do corpo do tradutor.

The present paper brings about a possible articulation between translation and body from a non-sublimated, pragmatic perspective on meaning, as suggested by Wittgenstein in his Philosophical Investigations. By considering theoretical elaborations within embodied realism and elsewhere on the role of the body in cognitive processes, together with a critique of the concept of translation somatics, as proposed by Douglas Robinson (1991), the paper highlights the situated and social character of the translator's body.

Apesar de os dois teóricos sociais da linguagem, Bakhtin e Labov, serem oriundos de tradições diferentes - filosófica e empírica, respectivamente -, o artigo mostra a comparabilidade das duas abordagens, em termos de aproximações e distanciamentos, em relação aos seguintes aspectos: (i) "teoria sociológica"; (ii) metodologia de pesquisa e visão de sujeito; (iii) variação/mudança lingüística e variação estilística; e (iv) relação estabelecida entre língua, sociedade e identidade. Conclui-se que uma abordagem que articule as duas teorias é viável desde que a concepção de língua adotada relacione, intrinsecamente, o funcionamento da língua, a questão da identidade e o mundo social.

Despite the fact that Bakhtin and Labov, who are two social theorists of language, share different traditions (philosophical and empirical ones, respectively), this article shows the comparability of these two approaches, in terms of approximations and distances, in relation to the following aspects: (i) the "sociological theory"; (ii) the research methodology and a certain subject's conception; (iii) the linguistic variation/ change and the stylistic variation; and (iv) the relation established between language, society and identity. We conclude that an approach that combines both theories is possible only if the language conception adopted is intrinsically related to: the way language functions, the identity aspect and the social world.

O presente estudo fundamenta-se na necessidade de compreensão de mecanismos compensatórios usados por indivíduos portadores de alterações da qualidade vocal (disfonias). O objetivo foi investigar amostras de vozes com alterações da qualidade vocal por procedimentos perceptivo-auditivos (qualidade vocal e reconhecimento de fala), acústicos (análise de curto e de longo termo) e fisiológicos (eletroglotografia-EGG, videolaringoestroboscopia e videoquimografia). Do ponto de vista perceptivo-auditivo, foi destacada a validade do uso de roteiro com embasamento fonético e de teste de reconhecimento de fala. Algumas dimensões perceptivas mostraram correlações, as quais encontram respaldo nas descrições acústicas e fisiológicas. Os resultados acústicos indicaram a relevância dos eventos de longo termo e sua correspondência àqueles de curto termo. Dados de EGG revelaram correspondência aos resultados do exame otorrinolaringológico. Os resultados evidenciam a multiplicidade de manifestações clínicas descritas sob a terminologia "disfonia", de forma a revelar as correlações entre os planos perceptivo, acústico e fisiológico da qualidade vocal.

This study departs from the necessity of understanding compensatory mechanisms used by dysphonic individuals. The objective was to investigate dysphonic voices by taking into account acoustic analysis (long and short term analysis), physiological examination (electroglottography - EGG, laryngeal endoscopy, videostroboscopy and videokymography) and perceptual evaluation (voice quality and speech recognition) procedures. From the perceptual point of view, both the usefulness of the phonetically oriented vocal profile and the speech recognition task have been validated. Some perceptual dimensions correlated to each other, with correspondences to acoustical and physiological descriptions. From the acoustic point of view results indicated the relevance of long - term events and their correspondence to those of short term. Data from EGG showed correspondence to the results of otolarygologic examination. The results favors focus on the multiple clinical manifestations related to dysphonia so as to instruct rehabilitation practices in clinical settings, based on acoustic-to articulatory and perceptual correlates.

No português brasileiro são atestados pares mínimos estabelecendo o contraste entre vogais médias abertas e fechadas na sílaba tônica. Entretanto, há casos em que estas duas categorias variam neste mesmo contexto, sem conseqüências semânticas. Com o objetivo de verificar se este fenômeno se reflete nas representações armazenadas na memória de longo prazo e empregadas nos processos perceptivos, os resultados obtidos por doze falantes do português brasileiro em uma tarefa de classificação das vogais médias posteriores [o] e [<img src="/img/revistas/delta/v25n2/a05img02.gif" align="absmiddle">] foram comparados aos obtidos em relação ao contraste entre [o] e [u]. Estimouse o grau em que estes mesmos resultados prevêem os resultados em tarefas de discriminação. Em comparação com o continuum [u-o], foram observadas uma média mais baixa dos coeficientes de inclinação e uma relação menos estreita entre os resultados das tarefas de classificação e discriminação no continuum [o- <img src="/img/revistas/delta/v25n2/a05img02.gif" align="absmiddle">]. Os resultados sugerem que as representações das vogais [o] e [<img src="/img/revistas/delta/v25n2/a05img02.gif" align="absmiddle">] são menos distintas entre si do que as representações das vogais [o] e [u].

Abstract in English:

In Brazilian Portuguese, minimal pairs are attested for the contrast between open- and close-mid vowels in stressed syllables. However, there are cases in which these two categories show free variation in this same context without semantic consequences. With the aim of verifying whether this phenomenon is reflected in representations stored in long term memory and used in perceptual processes, the results obtained by twelve Brazilian Portuguese native speakers in a classification task with back mid vowels [o] and [<img src="/img/revistas/delta/v25n2/a05img02.gif" align="absmiddle">] as stimuli were compared to the contrast between [o] and [u]. The degree to which those results predict vowel discrimination tasks was estimated. In comparison with the [u-o] continuum, a lower mean of the slopes of the classification curves and a looser relation between classification and discrimination results were observed for the [o-<img src="/img/revistas/delta/v25n2/a05img02.gif" align="absmiddle">] continuum. The results are interpreted as suggestive that the representations of the vowels [o] and [<img src="/img/revistas/delta/v25n2/a05img02.gif" align="absmiddle">] are less distinct from each other than the representations of [o] and [u].

Este artigo tem por objetivo discutir como o processo de observação em sala de aula é entendido por docentes observadores. Pauta-se na pesquisa crítica, fundamentandose teoricamente na Teoria da Atividade (Engeström, 1987, 1999a, 1999b), nos autores que discutem linguagem e reflexão crítica (Magalhães, 2000; Liberali, 1994) e no papel do discurso na construção dos significados (Halliday, 1985; Halliday & Hasan, 1989). O artigo apresenta uma introdução, justificando a importância do procedimento de observação no desenvolvimento de professores, e está organizado em três partes: fundamentação teórica sobre o processo de observação; metodologia, onde descrevo procedimentos de registro da observação; e discussão dos registros coletados, à luz da lingüística sistêmico-funcional. Do ponto de vista do observador, os resultados mostramnos que a observação pode ser instrumento de desenvolvimento apenas para o participante observado. O poder da observação como instrumento de medida e avaliação mostra-se fortemente marcado pelas escolhas lexicais dos participantes.

This paper aims to discuss how the process of observation in classes is understood by observing teachers. It is based on critical research and the theoretical frame refers to the Activity Theory (Engeström, 1987, 1999a, 1999b), in authors that discuss language and critical reflection (Magalhães, 2000; Liberali, 1994), and the role of speech in the construction of meanings (Halliday, 1985; Halliday & Hasan, 1989). The paper presents an introduction in which I justify why observation is an important procedure on development of teachers and it is organized in three sections: the theoretical frame about the process of observation; the methodology that describes procedures of collected data; and the discussion of data, supported by systemic functional linguistics. According the observer, the results show us that the observation can be instrument of development only for the observed participant. The power of the observation as instrument of measure and evaluation is strongly marked by the lexical choices of the participants.

O tema da disciplinaridade está se tornando cada vez mais relevante nos estudos do discurso. Uma maneira de conhecer os gêneros escritos específicos utilizados na universidade, é ter acesso ao material que os estudantes lêem durante sua formação universitária. Este artigo apresenta uma investigação que tem como foco a coleta, construção e descrição de um corpus acadêmico baseado em textos de quatro áreas: Química Industrial, Engenharia da Civil, Serviço Social e Psicologia. Apresenta-se uma revisão dos conceitos e gêneros do discurso acadêmico. Segue-se uma descrição dos procedimentos de coleta e organização do corpus acadêmico PUCV-2006, que compreende um total de 60 milhões de palavras e uma tipologia dos gêneros a partir dos 491 textos do corpus.

The issue of disciplinarity is becoming increasingly salient in discourse studies. Questions of how differences in the structures of intellectual fields and curricula help shape educational experiences and outcomes are the focus of studies across a variety of disciplines using a range of approaches. One way to access the specialized written genres employed by academia is to begin from the tenet that all materials read by students during their university training reveal relevant data about disciplinary genres. This article presents research that focuses on the collection, construction, and description of an academic corpus based on texts collected in four disciplinary domains of knowledge: Industrial Chemistry, Construction Engineering, Social Work, and Psychology. A review of the concepts of genre and academic discourse is presented. This is followed by a description of the procedures of collecting and organizing the Academic Corpus PUCV-2006, which comprises almost 60 million words. In addition, a preliminary genre typology of the 491 text corpus is provided.

Este artigo tem como objetivo desenvolver uma abordagem teórica sobre o contexto. Em tal sentido, expomos contribuições conceituais relativas às condições de produção discursiva propostos por Teun van Dijk segundo a tradição epistemológica pragmática. A perspectiva desse linguista permite a abertura a uma formalização teórica da situação em que se geram os discursos, expondo uma perspectiva que explica o fenômeno discursivo em sua dimensão social, indispensável para o trabalho analítico sobre qualquer tipo de discurso. Assim, inicialmente propomos uma elaboração de conhecimento significativo para, posteriormente, delimitar e selecionar os elementos conceituais que dão forma ao construto que denominamos contexto, utilizando como fonte teórica central os trabalhos de van Dijk e outros autores de alcance interdisciplinar cujas contribuições podem ser incorporadas a qualquer teoria e metodologia concebidas para lidar com a organização estrutural do discurso.

The objective of this article is to develop a theoretical approach about the context. In such sense, we set out the conceptual contributions in relation to the conditions of discursive production proposed by Teun van Dijk from Pragmatic Epistemology tradition.The perspective of this linguist allows open us towards a theoretical formalization of the situation in which the discourses are generated, exposing a perspective that explains the discursive phenomenon in its social dimension, irreplaceable for the analytical work on any type of discourse. In this way, firstly we raised an elaboration of significant knowledge, and later we delimit and select those conceptual elements that give form to the frame that we call context, using as central theoretical source the works of van Dijk and others authors of interdisciplinary reach whose contributions can to be incorporated to any theory and methodology conceived to give account of the structural organization of the speech.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo investigar a influência da língua falada na escrita de crianças em relação aos fenômenos do cancelamento da dental /d/ e da vibrante final /r/. Elaboramos e aplicamos um instrumento de pesquisa em alunos do Ensino Fundamental em escolas de Fortaleza. Para a análise dos dados obtidos, utilizamos o software SPSS. Os resultados nos revelaram que o sexo masculino e as palavras polissílabas são fatores que influenciam, de forma parcial, a realização da variável dependente /no/ e que os verbos e o nível de escolaridade são elementos condicionadores para o cancelamento da vibrante final /r/.

The present study aims to investigate the influence of the spoken language in children's writing in relation to the phenomena of cancellation of dental /d/ and final vibrant /r/. We elaborated and applied a research instrument to children from primary school in Fortaleza. We used the software SPSS to analyze the data. The results showed that the male sex and the words which have three or more syllable are factors that influence, in part, the realization of the dependent variable /no/ and that verbs and level of education are conditioners elements for the cancellation of the final vibrant /r/.
