Evaluation of moral personality development

Abstract

This paper assesses the Development of Moral Personality of seven-year-old children. The hypothesis is that it is possible to improve the development of moral personality and we decided to evaluate how this development happens. We evaluated this process in first graders who could already read in a public school. We presented them four virtues: friendship, temperance, perseverance and justice. The objective of this research was evaluate how children can learn to live according these virtues. Theoretical foundation was the philosophy of virtues of Aristotle and the personality theory of Jung. The methodological approach was Sucupira Lins Method for action research with great commitment. We have built a material – Ethos – which is a set of pictures and stories to be analyzed by children. Childen had discussed about the behavior of characters and they debated the possibilities of the conclusions if they had respected the four virtues. They enjoyed the material – Ethos - and have learnt to behave according the virtues. Data show that children can develop moral personality through this material.
