Câncer: a short film that invents a people

This article discusses two main points: the problem of minor films and the invention of a people. Our analysis involves a film called Câncer (1968-1972), by filmmaker Glauber Rocha. This analysis is driven by the power of images, seen as sensitive elements capable of producing cracks in the ways of seeing, speaking and feeling. We talk about ways to produce tension with consensuses and establish other thoughts about the possibilities of space and time. Our hypothesis is the notion that Câncer is a minor film that can bring about tensions with major forms of cinema and with major facts, a procedure understood in political dimensions. The notion of becoming minor is examined as a possibility for trigger other life forms, other ways of togetherness, and of envisioning the common, to invent a people.
