The end of television, an end or a new beginning?

Abstract:

The book O Fim da Televisão (The End of Television) recalls authors such as Manuel Castells, Mario Carlón, Eliseo Verón, Carlos Scolari, Henry Jenkins, among others, with the intent of updating some of the main debates about the role of TV in the current scenario. Issues such as the implement of mobile media devices, new forms of consumption of audiovisual productions, the multiplication of screens, and the audience’s interactivity, are raised as predictions of the end of a TV broadcasting model. At the same time, the relation of the addressee with the new media is observed as still mediated by the language inherited from the traditional TV model.
